There was a Watchtower article in 2000 that encouraged all JWs to start saving for a pension or at least have a retirement plan.
Does someone have the exact issue and page number for that article? I haven't read a magazine in a few years and I'd like to see that comment in print. Thanks.
Brummie, can you give me some key words from that article? I may be able to find it and post the relevant bit here.
Sorry peeps I only just saw the questions in this thread, this is from 1998, I thought it was from 2000...obviousely a product of the 1914 generation change and the thought that JWs can now get old in this system. I NEVER once saw such a statement in any WT all the years I was in, on the contrary it was against people making plans to be financially secure in later life.
"...It is wise to make reasonable plans for the future. Aware of the problems and limitations of old age, many people try to make good use of their youth and strength so that their later life maybe financially secure.."

What, then, of our far more important spiritual future? Proverbs 21:5 says: "The plans of the diligent one surely make for advantage, but everyone that is hasty surely heads for want." Planning ahead with eternity in view is truly advantageous. Since we do not know precisely when the end of this system will come, we need to give some thought to our future needs.
Blimey, Brummie, it's like reading Barry Smith's stuff, when he interspersed his "urgent" message with references to "posterity" and "when I've been long gone"!
Bull crap! I saved it for marriage, now you want me to save it for retirement? Forget it! I'm spending it while I've got it!

They only post articles like that so they can point out to the press when they're being hammered on -- "We even told the brothers and sisters to plan for retirement!" (You know how they love to blame the rank and file a la 1975)
I bet you anything JT would say that was a ploy from legal to cover their asses.
Like one #($%!)@ sentence in an A Fake magazine mitigates the damage done by hearing at every meeting that Armegeddon is....just around the corner!
