I'm honestly not to sure what to think of it. It has been around for so long that it would be difficult to say that it has NO merit at all but I'm not so sure I like the idea of my life being up the the shuffle of some cards.

Sirona, what deck do you have? I just ordered a set (Medieval Scapini). http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/medievalscapini/index.html Never read them before. It's just something that I found a little interest in when the subject would come up. I have no fear of negative influences. It was fun to look through hundreds of decks on line, to find one that I liked and felt right. They are simply a fun tool for perhaps deeper understanding of myself, and entertainment. Here is a link for those who are interested which explains much. http://www.learntarot.com/less1.htm JamesT
My first experience with the tarot was a little over two weeks ago when a close friend did a reading for me...I was amazed at how accurate it turned out to be.....I am interested in learning more about...I doubt I would ever rely on it, but it is fun and entertaining and does give you some insight into your deeper dreams perhaps?
Tarot can be a very "hot" medium in untrained, unprepared hands. It is much better IMHO to approach Tarot slowly through other means first. That would include the Runes, for one. And then there is personal preparation before hand as well. Lots of meditation and getting to know the self and its limits. And acheiving the maximum contact with the indwelling spirit as possible before attempting Tarot.
After all, novice mountain climbers don't start off with Everest or K-2, they start with climbs more suited to the uninitiated. You really can get "scorched" jumping on Tarot too soon.

I believe that some may have shall we say a more intuitive gift than others and this may be a medium to facillitate their 'seeing". I had a "friend"<read as backstabbing b****> that did a reading for Chris and I neither of them were even CLOSE to reality. I had a reading before that was dead-on by someonelse and frankly scared the belivinJesus out of me!
The general mistake is that Tarot cards predict your future.
They do nothing of this kind, they act more like a Rorschach test:
They reflect your inner mind and what is going on in it,
just like I Ching and other such "divining" tools...
The interpretation of tarot cards are highly subjective. There is nothing magical about them... it's just human psychology. People are just as 'successful' reading tea leaves or the internal organs of dead animals. Scientific studies of tarot readings have shown that they are not any more accurate than chance:

Well I started it a few months back and to be honest the readings were crap ! the cards I got were some cheap ones from a bookstore here called Waterstones. I then went out and picked my cards and did a few more readings, I gues I kinda got used to them and so far I have done about 7 more readings and they have honestly been so accurate and I know this for a fact.
I believe that everyone has a phsycic ability after all we only use a small ammount of our brains as we know, so you just need to learn and become open to it. I dont believe that the tarot is connection with spirits etc but believe that it is a personal awareness, there is a reason why that person picks the cards they did etc you have something inside you.
As ex witnesses we all need to learn to be a lot more open to this sort of stuff if it is of interest to us. Personally I find it very interesting, often it is the case that I will say things before my partner says it or my partner will freak me out seriously by telling me things about my day at work or something that wouldnt be known i.e what people were wearing in the office etc. Stupid things I know but its kinda cool.
I wouldnt go down the route of ouija or anything but certainly believe that we have guardian angels, guardian animals, spirit guides and stuff like that. I also believe a lot more of healing things with herbal stuff and naturally, really trying to go back to the celts and stuff.
If I can be of any more help even just to compare notes drop me a line.
Matt
Sometimes I like them raw. And sometimes in a salad...er wait...that's carrots...never mind! Maverick
