One real killer for the idea of a Global flood, is a plant called Kings Lomatia, It is probably the oldest living thing on the Planet, in that it propagates itself in such a way that the original plant still lives, and is 40,000 years old !
Here is the knock out punch, it could not survive for any length of time under salt water ! I have an e-mail from the Professor who is the World expert on the planet, confirming that fact.
As to which local flood or floods gave rise to the myths, it is difficult to say, but certainly the myths are much older than when Noah's flood was supposed to happen, and no major flood of unusual proportions took place in the Middle East at that time.

I had an uncle in the cult that would spout this crap about he had found fish fossils on top of the Rocky Mountains. LOL He would hold it up when giving a talk thinking it proved that a global flood happened.This is ignorance of tectonic plate activity. What is not high mountains are actually newer developed ranges as they have not had a lot of time to erode. Ranges like the smokey mountains are older having eroded away some. Mountains were once sea beds having pushed up by the moment and crashing of tectonic plates. Its not a sign that the earth was once covered by water.

The Noah's flood story was told with the intent of creating power and relevance to the god of which these ancient people worshiped and associated themselves with.
Another point to consider is that there is no archeological break in the distant civilizations that were in existence at the time of this supposed event, such as the Egyptian civilization.

The ancients told many stories of the select gods, some were made into pictographs onto temples of worship, its a fact in huamn history that is indisputable.
