    Probably just as well.

Ten bucks says it'd just go like this anyway:

"Your hand brushed mine when you passed me the microphone during the WT study.

I've informed the elders that we're engaged.

    I love you."

    :smirk:

(Note: I did not come up with this, but it's just too funny not to post.)

You do know about the Jdubs preoccupation with DATES, dont you? unfulfilled dates, never to be coming dates, round the corner dates....now , now I recommend you tread with caution .Their are greener pastures with much promise elsewhere dear.

It is not unrealistic. I know a brother who asked a sister to marry him after they had three conversations at the KH while she was in a group.

Blondie I know quite a few weird experiences that happened in my congregation. It is beyond belief how silly n in most cases have no clue at all about dating, courting leave alone getting engaged n marrying!!!

One a brother just saw a photo of a sis in our cong.he was from another town totally and very very far;pole apart! He liked the pic so much, this sis is beautiful so no surprise in falling for looks. He sends proposals thru the elder of his cong. The sis's father said that both families should get aquainted better first, thereby getting to really see first hand who is who n whats whatetc. well immediately calls started n kinda pestering started ove rthe phone itself wnating information ie age, education, spiritual qualities, need to hear her voice over the phone, can she come n talk etc...weird stuff! This sis immediately felt invade, pressured needlessly. She actually confided in me saying she htinks they will just arrange everything without her or her families consent (coz they had a couple of elders as family from his side). The father kept on insisting come n meetup with each others families which will be a start.

When it got too muc to bear, the sis told her father," I am refusing to even get to know, or meet up with any of him/his family/elders etc. I do not want to go ahead with anything coz they are calling the shots n seem to not have any regard for how things must go about, so materialistic too(already sent expensive gifts for the sis to wear n take pics of n send back the pics to them)". The whole family felt weird about it all n no one seemed comfortable. So when the next phone call comes, the father calls the whole thing off (cant even call a thing coz their was nothing to start with), giving some reasons. The elder on their side flips his lid, saying "you cant do that, we have gone so far into this ,everyone in the cong has been told about this engagement to be, marriage to be, phtotos passed to all n all details about the sister. this will bring reproach on the said groom to be.you cant not do this.I will complain to the elders." Obvious how weird n strange they were , it seemed like groom to be in his dreams was obssesed by her picture, that he became like a stalker, abusive.

Dont know what happened though after this. Of course the sis told me that her father stood by er supporting her reasons all the way through which was all that saved her ass from getting into a forced marriage with a gun to her head I suppose.

I do know some chilling ones. It takes all sorts drawn to the "so called truth "

Sorry for the wall of text and poor english.

I know a CO mother met this sister for the first time n immediately she asks invasive questions are you...single..family..job..income..own a house..how do you feel about marriage etc. Pretty soon she popped the question "what do you think about my son? " Alarm bells were ringing from the start, n this sister just made an excuse n ran.She has avoided her then on.

Boy what the hell is wrong with people!!!

Zing, I called those people desperados; so desperate they would marry anyone breathing and baptized.

My dad had a study...a foreign man much older than me. He saw me and proposed to me thru my dad, my dad said no. He insisted he hear it from me. I told him no, too. He acted like he was shocked that I didn’t want to marry him, yech!

It won’t be long till they start arranging marriages, like the Indians.

The account that Zing was mentioning made me go wow, that's pretty wild. It also reminded me of something else that had happened. I met my husband at a kingdom hall build, and we hit it off pretty quickly, engaged in a month, and married two and a half months after that. We also lived two hours apart at the time. Anyways after we were married I moved to where he was living. So the very first time I actually step foot inside his congregation was after we were married. Let me just say it was the worst experience ever for myself. Apparently, there were a few single sisters there who all had their eye on him as possible husband material, but he couldn't stand any of them. Every time I was there I would get these death glares from them.

Tameria2001, I remember that happening when my good-looking jw cousin married a sister from another circuit. She got the evil eye from sisters all over my cousin's circuit. Yes, it is considered poaching.
