I am a little surprised that nobody from Down-Under has mentioned “Cyclone Rex” Manwaring. Don’t think the term “Jack Ass” would quite describe him, but he was certainly unforgettable!

Yes, the nickname "Cyclone" suggests that he might have been a bit of a character! 😳

Agreed, but our Rex was not the sharpest tool in the box, was he?
BTW it was spelt Mainwaring.
Anyway he projected the template for ‘spiritual’ men (as he was a large man himself) and came accompanied by a loyal, much smaller, subservient wife.
Rex had all the qualities necessary for the apparatchik of a controlling cult. He displayed no original thoughts except those of ‘the Organisation’. At the time, I quite liked him. Times changes things.

In the 80's in Australia, we had Vincent Toole as C.O. As a kid, I thought he was ok - but then again- kids are idiots.
@ joeyjojo
Our paths may have crossed in a former life ?
The pic you shared shows a Vin much older and thinner than the more vital Vin I remember; how the years change us !
Cheers,

the daftest one i ever met --in the UK --was John Blaney.…..
He was not daft. He was brilliant but also strange, bizarre. He had a gi- normous ego and truly a “one- off” . There was never another like him.
Despite his faults , I woould love to see someone remotely like him today to break up the blandness…
Even after so many years I can recall the imposing presence of “Brother Blayney” with his white hair and all.

Happy to be corrected as to the spelling of “Cyclone Rex’s” surname!

PS: @ozziepost
I remember Neville Bromwich giving talks at one of our circuit assemblies. However, we never had him as Circuit Overseer (not in my time, anyway). Perhaps we didn't miss much?
