I just had to pull this thread up and tell u what happened to me. I always have my hair colored at a salon. this last itme, i had been letting my hair grow out from a very short style. I asked them to put my natural brown on it, and then highlight it with blonde. a very simple thing-a blonde frost. Well the young lady who did my hair, combined 2 shades of brown and turned my hair a reddish brown. Then while my entire head was covered with brown hair color, she went back and foiled it blonde. I now have hair that has both brown and bonde on it-WHICH WAY DO U GO-i'm sure my hair was confused. And it was, it turned reddish brown with gold highlights. i was not happy but did not say too much. a few days later, i had them try and FIX it, so they put me in a cap and put ash on it. so now i have a murky shade of red, brown and gold. I could not live with this, so i found a corrective coloring salon and today, i paid, tip and all $175 to have blonde foiled in it, and brown(the right shade) painted on remaining hair. I am now have a lovely blonde frost-highlight. i am so pleased. so all total, the first salon was $120(i bought some products there) and second salon $175-all to get a blonde highlight.I called and raised cain with the first salon, and i am going to dispute it on the credit card.

So, even at a salon u have to watch out. some are more professional than others. To say the least, the old salon lost a good customer, but i now have found a seasoned hair dresser who KNOWS COLOR. So important at first signs of gray.

I find a stylist and stick with them, I found the last one the month I moved to Missouri I had decided to dye my hair black well I didn't know my friggin Great-Grandma was an Irish redhead LOL So under any light it looked purple which would be fine NOW but this was 1992 and it just looked silly. Mine does a two step process on mine auburn and goldish blonde in the summer. I never use to dye my hair much but when my Grandbaby was born she wasn't breathing and boy it turned me gray over-night LOL I'm going this next week right now mine is the deep auburn my hair usually is but Spring HAS Sprung and I'm getting a little trim and color.

As far as other things NEVER use one of those sandpaper pads that tout they remove hair on legs and underarms oh ya they do and then you get this red rashy bumpy leperous looking stuff LOL

Oh my neighbor was told by a beautician that you can just trim you hair on you upper lip well ya you can and it comes in thicker and noticeable YIKES

Don't ever use cheap Q-tips they will come off the stick and you will have to go to the doctor to have the cotton removed all the while saying HUh, HUH and he will tell you "never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear" LOL

If you are allergic to feather pillows don't put one between your knees to sleep or lay on one with out tripiling the pillow cases. Because you start breaking out on your knees and face then after months of this you'll figure it out.

    SheilaM, this brings back memories:

Fortunately, I was able to get it out with tweezers. Johnson and Johnson Q-tips from now on.

OH MY, I HAVE TRIED THOSE THINGS, AND WITH MY IRISH SKIN, WELL IT TOOK THE SKIN OFF TOO. i HAD TO END UP USING NEOSPORIN ON MY FACE TO HEAL IT.

ANOTHER THING, RETIN-A, IS GREAT, BUT IF U HAVE DELICATE SKIN, WATCH OUT. IT WILL LITERALLY PEEL YOUR SKIN OFF. BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT. ALL I CAN SAY IS, I GOT A FACE PEEL THE HARD WAY. WHEN IT HEALED, THE SKIN LOOKED LOVELY-REMOVED SOME FINE LINES AND TINY SCARS.

ALSO, IF U EVER NEED TO GET ELECTROLYSIS, (SP) BE CAREFUL IF U HAVE DELICATE SKIN, IT CAN AND DOES LEAVE LITTLE TINY HOLES IN YOUR SKIN.

ALSO, THERE IS A DRUG CALLED SPIRLALDACTONE, AND IT WILL SLOW HAIR GROWTH ON YOUR FACE, AND ACTUALLY PROMOTE GROWTH ON YOUR HEAD.(WHERE U WANT IT). IT AFFECTS HORMONES, AND BLOCKS THE TESTOSTERONE , SO IT WILL STOP OR DRAMITICALY SLOW DOWN FACIAL HIAR GROWTH.

SORRY ABOUT CAPS, CAN'T SEEM TO GET THE EDIT FUNCTION T WORK RIGHT ON THIS POST.EDITED TO ADD, I ALSO CAN'T GET THE "QUOTE' THING TO STOP-IT LOOKS LIKE I QUOTED MY ENTIRE POST.

    {{Wednesday, Sheila and blondie}}

I almost restarted this myself this morning.....

I shaved my leg this morning. Leg being the operative word. I got out of the shower and dried off.....then I noticed that I had shaved only one leg. I had to go back and start over.

I have NO recollection of shaving only one.

I, too, have tried Retin-A and the thingy that removes hair. YEOW!

I burned the skin off my face and had ingrown hairs for months on my legs.

What price beauty, huh? Men will never understand the pain and suffering we go through.

Sheila, I also dyed my hair black. About 6 years ago. With my red undertones, I too looked purple in daylight.

I went to Sally Beauty Supply and asked how to remove the black color. They gave me color remover. Seemed simple enough. They said *all* the color would be gone.

45 minutes later I looked like Carrot Top having a bad hair day! I panicked and went to a salon. $150.00 later they were able to make my hair reddish brown again. I wore a hat to the salon....I could have taken out someone's vision the way my hair reflected light!

I think I am going to stop while I am ahead. I am going to try the same salon again and hopefully my husband will understand why $50-60.00 for a cut and/or color, every 6-8 weeks, is worth it.

Stop before u get your bangs too shot, the cleopatra(sp?) look is not in

Hey! I resemble that remark. I've found men love the cleopatra look. Actually mine's more of a cross between Cleopatra and Betty Page. It's the first hair style I've had for a while and it still works for me.

$160.00 later, plus tip, for corrective color has taught me one thing: let the experts do it.

I fully agree with this. But alas, I have no money. I've had to color my hair since I was 30 due to the gray, It is almost entirely gray now.

One thing which WILL work to undo hair dying mistakes is L'Oreal's Dye Remover (or something like that). I t took out much of the color deposited on my hair by dying it myself (can never color "just the roots" as one is supposed to), and I was able to re-color it. Looks great now.

Oh, you guys are making me laugh so hard. My big tip? If you use those velcro rollers, be sure to count them before you leave the house. My boss was in stitches when she plucked the big, pink roller off the back of my black, fuzzy sweater. So professional, so cool.
