moomanchu: "I think birthdays for children under 13 will be good one day"

No. It's not in their nature to show any concession towards kindness. The religion has always loathed children; it's an underlying principle. The two witness rule in CSA cases is a great example.

Hatred of children aside, the real issue is : if you spend money on family celebrations (birthdays, Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc.), you don't have that money to give to "Da Wurldwide Wurk". 🙄 🙂‍↔️

You've got me genuinely wondering now: in days gone by, how would the elders have reacted to a genuine "bearded lady" who sported a five o'clock shadow? 🤔😳

Sisters could always wear pants. The problem was that the Bible says that men should dress as men and women as women. They lowered their standards by allowing beards too to keep more people in.

JWs wear beards but that shows they don't care about hygiene.

It is necessary to have two witnesses to confirm an accusation as that is part of justice.

Whole blood is not prohibited by God for medical use.

607 is when the Gentile times began though Jerusalem was destroyed in 587.

JWs are not an organized religion. The congregation structure is organized.

I don't get why people and children want to celebrate birthdays.

    ummm yeah, Google circumstantial evidence

"I don't get why people and children want to celebrate birthdays."

If you genuinely don't know why, I feel sorry for you.

If you want to be in a certain club you have to follow their rules. They believed evil Spock sported a beard and the good Spock was clean shaven. They also believed the Amish way was the norm for all women but their men were evil, you know...due to the beards.

The two witness rule has a couple of problems. One, eyewitness testimony is easily the least reliable form of evidence. Two, it is laughably easy to abuse, thus derailing the very justice it is supposed to serve.

I mean, it's fine for old-time religious investigations, like trying to determine if little Johnny has been whacking off to porn mags when he thinks no one is watching. It sucks for pretty much anything else. It's not a substitute for a forensic investigation in any case that actually matters.

The best comment I ever heard on beards...Back in the '90s a young brother I was close to went through what was considered a "rebellious" period and grew a beard. There was talk about it behind his back, but one Sunday as he walked into the meeting, a sweet elderly sister called him over to her and told him "Brother...whenever I see you, I think of Jesus, because Jesus had a beard!..."

moomanchu, yes, a sister could not be df'd for wearing pants to the meetings and in field circus, but they would not be seen as a good associate for other jws by the body of elders. That could cut back or eliminate your jw social life.
