MMM: spot on!
MMM,
That’s a generalization, and not really the point. It’s time that vile behaviors are addressed and no longer swept under the rug of “religious freedom.”
Again, no government is without its share of ineptitude and hypocrisy, like Russia, but at least they’re trying to hold extremist religions accountable.
I freely admit that the Russian Orthodox Church may very well be just as corrupt as JWism, hence the hypocrisy, but that doesn’t mean JWism shouldn’t be put in check.

zeb: Could anyone please translate the footage please
Youtube provides this translation:
MGB LNR suppressed the extremist activity of a religious organizationTo achieve their goals, representatives of the All-Ukrainian Union of Evangelical Churches Christian Baptists ("WCC ECB") in the territory of the People's Republic of China subjected their "parishioners" to psychological influence with the use of psychotropic drugs.
In the course of the operational activities it was also established that the WCC ECB attracted medical workers from medical institutions of the Republic who took part in the organization and conduct of mass religious events, carrying out private medical activities without coordination with the relevant ministry.
When checking the activities of the organization, printed publications, audio and video materials were created to incite hatred and hostility based on nationality, origin, membership of a social group, as well as the justification of war crimes committed by Kiev security officials against civilians in the Donbas. According to experts' conclusions, the literature found is recognized as extremist.
Further measures are being taken to identify, suppress and block the illegal activities of religious organizations in the territory of the People's Republic of China, including those related to the distribution of religious prints of an extremist nature.

Don’t undermine freedom of association because you view beliefs as “vile”... unless you were attempting to make some sort of distinction, but that didn’t come through at all. You are praising Russia’s ban “JWism” as an American.
Again, no government is without its share of ineptitude and hypocrisy, like Russia, but at least they’re trying to hold extremist religions accountable.
All governments are the epitome of ineptitude and hypocrisy.
DNA is to biological creatures as ineptitude is to government.
That’s the point. Governments shouldn’t choose which beliefs are vile, they will get it wrong each time. And then when they try to fix it, they make it worse.
Now, again, if you trying to make a distinction, perhaps addressing child molestation or letting children die by withholding medical treatment, then yes, there is a case to be made for those behaviors specifically. But saying “extremist religions” tends to make me think you were shooting for the whole shebang.
I freely admit that the Russian Orthodox Church may very well be just as corrupt as JWism, hence the hypocrisy, but that doesn’t mean JWism shouldn’t be put in check.
Define JWism in this context.
It's such a joke to listen lectures on morals and anti-extremism from Russian government and its media. Not much better than taking lectures from ISIS about human rights.
Sort of "off-topic" but interesting is the fact that the Greek Orthodox church was part of the divided Roman Empire and the longest-lasting historically. (Rome 'fell' in 476 C.E. and the Orthodox empire lived on about another thousand years!)
Isolated as they were, the taint of Roman Catholic political influence was absent. NT Scripture preserved by the Greek Orthodox priests is probably closer to original texts. This doesn't necessitate those texts being viewed as "true", mind you, but as part of the confluence of tributaries leading to a "restored" Bible, the differences are noteworthy.
Russia (pre-Communist revolution) was among the most "churchy" places on earth. Christianity was practiced all through the Stalin years very unobtrusively. When the Glasnost happened, an immediate spring-back effect transpired and the churches were instantly filled with devout worshippers one again (as though the revolution never happened.)
The fact that the current Putin regime is supporting Russian Orthodox religious demonstrations of piety over and above intrusive Western sects and denominations would indicate to me (I have no supporting facts) that a kind of concordant agreement like Hitler and the Pope) has been made.
I'm going to spend the day researching my hypothesis.
As I said, this is off-topic--but while it was on my mind I stopped to blurt it out :)
Historically, prohibition never really works.
I think the vile behavior and the definition of JWism is self- explanatory.
Is there anyone on this site that doesn’t know what practices associated with the beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses are detrimental?
Let them believe their wacky doctrines. Let them meet in their homes or cult compound, but don’t let them say and do whatever they wish under the premise of freedom.
Also, their tax free ride should end.

but don’t let them say and do whatever they wish under the premise of freedom.Well.... someone is not up-to-date on what freedom is. Yes we SHOULD let them say whatever they want, just like YOU can say whatever you want. That is what freedom is. You don't like the message? don't listen to it.
Also, their tax free ride should end.Yes, true.... agree here. Especially considering that it's being used to fund the lifestyle of religious leaders.
