Apparently, William Tyndale was an early J-Dub?

Point? No, I'm afraid that wasn't a comment with a point.

Not to put anyone to sleep, because explaining this shit always makes me want to take a shower...

In my JW time, it was necessary to claim Tyndale and Wycliffe as "really old dude JW's" due to Matt 13: 24-30. An enemy (SATAN!) sowed his Devil Weed Seed (FALSE CHRISTIANS!) among the poor wheat (TRUE CHRISTIANS!). In verse 30, the master (JEEBUS!) instructed his servants to 'let both the wheat and the weeds grow together until the harvest (1919! 1935! 1975! GENERATION THAT SAW 1914! UH.....) so that they would be harvested together... We JW's would be saved! (and turned into bread, because, what the hell is wheat for anyway...) while the weeds would be burnt. (pretty bad thinking, why not turn weeds into compost? I digress)

So whatever the current understanding of this "harvest" that fit the current JW narrative, the point was that there had to be "Jehovah's Witnesses" from around from the end of the 1st century all through to modern times, when CT Russell put down his bong and picked up his bible. (poetic license expressed...) Thus, Tyndale and Wycliffe were adopted by the cult leaders to fulfill a prophecy. (Yay!)

Bottom line, if there is no Tyndale and Wycliffe, then the investment that Freddie "Oops I Did It Again" Franz put into Matt 13:24-30 would have turned off a couple of generations of invested JW's. Franz conveniently waited until he was dead before the proof was soundly presented that his interpretation was in fact, laced with bullshit.

Not surprising the WTS would say this since any individual who posed a contradictory doctrinal threat to Catholicism is deemed one of FDSL, also taking into account the Adventist movement from the late 1800's was derived from Protestantism and the IBSA mostly used the King James bible .

It is dead easy to pick heroes and claim they “are one of us”.

Witnesses constantly crave evidence for connection with holiness and that's why Tyndale has been labelled a JW. No one other than a witness would make this connection!

Certainly Tyndale was sincere and paid for it with his life-- but he would shudder to be part of the JW cult.

It is he Watchtower organisation, even with internet communication, who still live in the Dark Ages.

All the 'good guys' (and girls) throughout history were early jw's and all the 'bad guys' (and girls) were some other religion. I wonder if an of those early jw's celebrated Christmas?

    just saying!

Yeah, I can just imagine Tyndale going from door to door in the 16th century handing out watchtower mags.

How big did the Watchtower Society allow ruffs to be back then?

They don't like Luther and Calvin.

Good point John_Mann. The org loves Hus, Tyndale, Wycliffe and even Isaac Newton. But I never heard or read where Calvin or Luther were put in a favorable light with the org. Luther and Calvin were reformers too, were they not?

Does anyone think Tyndale would support the dating calculation of what the WTS did to proclaim the significance of 1914 ?

Interesting is it not thousands of bible theologians of come and gone and those living today never made the interpretation of what the leading novice bible theologians did of the Watchtower Publishing house. ?
