Update on my letter to the elders regarding my dad's suicide

This past Saturday (April 12) I got a phone call from someone I've known since 1973 and who now lives in Mexico. He was visiting his daughter (who attended my dad's memorial service) and started the conversation by telling me how very sorry he was about my dad. He really sounded shook up about it, and he then proceeded to say that he had just finished reading my letter to the elders! Well, I didn't send his daughter or anyone in that congregation a copy of the letter, so that surprised me. I guess it's getting passed around the circuit. GOOD!!! He went on to rant and rave about elders who acted like the "superfine apostles" Paul mentioned, which I found rather vindicating. Then he asked me if William Osbeck had called me, and I said "no." He sounded surprised at that, and told me that Osbeck had spent an evening with his son-in-law (who also attended the service) talking about the letter and my dad!

Big Tex, cynical fellow that he is, said Osbeck was probably trying to get all of the details of the memorial service so he could see if some charge could be leveled at us. He's probably right. Anyway, it kind of startled me to hear that the letter IS being discussed, copied and passed around the congregations. Aw, and here I thought I was being ignored again!

cruzan...I'm glad the letter you wrote is being seen by those other than the "Superfine Apostle" class...and sorry that you still have to deal with the insults that are a small slap in the face and constant reminder of misery and a tragic end for your dad. Much love to my phone wife and the fam.

    Sincerely,

Cruzanheart, it's good (I guess, depending on what the elders are planning to do with it) that the letter is getting some attention. The letter was very sad and very touching from what I recollect from your posted copy of it. The whole thing was a shame. I hope you are coping with it okay.

Thank you, phone husband and rocketman! Yes, I am doing better. I'm being my usual proactive self and have the kids and me in a great support group, talk things out every Saturday night with Big Tex, and just take everything else one step at a time. Some days at work I have a brain and some days I don't, and I just accept that. I've passed that letter around to every churchgoer I could find, so I only hope it's reaping good benefits in the field as well. I do know that the JWs won't be very happy the next time they work MY street! My dear Baptist neighbor across the street is gunning for them. She's very protective of me!

    Love & hugs,

You have no idea how proud I am of you!!! I know that sounds silly like I'm your mom or gramma or something, but I truly am. I can only hope I would have the guts to do the same thing. You and Big Tex deserve so much more than those people can give at this time. I hope the letter serves as a lesson to everyone who reads it. I just hope it doesn't come back to bite you in the butt. But if it does have some alternative repurcussion you weren't expecting...I have no doubt you will come through with flying colours and a ton of grace!

    Love you,

    Andi

PS: I do everything I can to educate my friends (churchgoer or not!) about the ills of the JW organization!

    Nina,

U are very brave to have sent that letter. apparently u and your family were important people to the jws, or they would not be even reading it.perhaps it will help us all in the the long run.perhaps it will rattle a few people around here.

My fear now is that they may try and acuse u guys of apostasy. I agree with chris, if william osbeck was asking questions. it was not out of kindness.

    Hi Cruzanheart.

As always, I'm interested in what happened with your father, and of course, the JWs and body of elders of his congregation.

So they're passing the letter around, eh? Good. I'll bet that the letter you wrote has been wracking their pathetic minds for a little while now.

Does it affect their conscience? That's another story.

Big Tex is probably right. They'll be busy deconstructing the letter to find fault with its author as opposed to reading its contents and their heart felt honest meaning.

Geez...I wish I was there Cruzanheart/Big Tex. I just want to get real angry and yell my fool head off. But alas, that probably wouldn't accomplish anything. <sigh>

It shall be interesting, but probably not surprising when they 'the elders' come up with their course of action.

My thoughts are with you: I mean that. I hope you are all well.

Warm regards from Canada, and ol' Rayzorblade.

    Cruzanheart,

I think of you often and hope you're doing well. It was great seeing you last month (hard to believe it was 17 years) and talking about so many things. God Bless You and don't let those ol' nasty elders get you down.
