I'm pretty sure that Jonnycakes are about as close as you can get to grits in a cake form.

It sounds like your family was much more assured of their faith than mine and the congregations we attended. I think the news paper was about all we could read other than school books and those were suspect. (other than of course, the Wt and Awk)
I have talked to many Jws who have come knocking over the years and it seems they all fit the same pattern. I find your story an exception to the rule. Good for you and your parents!

I eat things like:
bread and cheese, butter, jam, ham, sausages,
pancakes
burgers
roti and bodi, ochro, potato, plaitain, baigan, tomato choka
I drink things like:
tea - milo, ovaltine, lipton, dilma, cadbury's chocolate

I have cereals or a bananna or toast or fruit. Not much else. Get you drfit though. When I am in India I eat spicy Indian food for breakfast and thus experience something different.
When I was a witness, my reading and intellectual interests were somewhat limited. I try a wider reading 'diet' nowadays.
