    OnTheWayOut - "...I also consider that part of their money problem might have included moving massive amounts to offshore accounts as a golden parachute for the lawyers, accountants, Governing Body members."

    Well, we've already had some confirmation of funds squirrelled away in the Caymans...

    ...in a weird way, I almost hope what you're suggesting is true; having something like that become public knowledge would make it that much easier for doubting JWs to decide to leave.

    Personally, I suspect they view Warwick as somehow being their safety-net/lifeboat*, and that they'd be more inclined to batten down the hatches there, come hell or high water.

    IMO, Warwick has more in common with Masada than it does the Ark, though.

    * IMO, there's a fundamental irony in having a "golden parachute" that lands in a toxic waste dump.

    The door knocking and "literature give aways" and studys are the ONLY way the WTBTS keeps it';s charitable status. if those records show less and less "charitable activity" then they could lose that status..

    Hmmm

    Those recorded hours of "literature give aways" and studies are the ONLY way the WTBTS is allowed to keep a charitable, tax free status. If those only measurable recordings of charitable "hours" go down, down, down, then the WTBTS could lose their highly profitable tax free status.

    @TTAT2 I think it starts at 10:13

    In the late 70's early 80's there was a very small window where the society seemed to be a little more moderate. This is when they started to say that "sacred service" included doing good works. I remember this quite clearly because It was emphazied at the pioneer school.

    This use of "sacred service" didin't last very long. I would say 1 year or 2 and then they went back to teaching that sacred service referred only to spiritual aspects of the worship such as meeting, commenting and service.

    Now they are back at it. This time they are doing it for different reasons. No doubt, they are receiving critisism over their charitable status and a bigger reason is that the preaching work is really dying, hours are diminishing and they are coming up with creative ways of keeping the momentum going.

    I wonder if they will have a column on the service report for how many good deed done in a month.

    The service report form S-43 has not changed since about '53, so I highly doubt that any new columns will be added anytime soon. It's a nice concept to perhaps allow the following: giving bible studies rides to meetings column; or nursing home visit to encourage long forgotten brother/sister column (actual praying counts double); perhaps watching screeching toddler at meetings for frazzled single mom ( must be in 15 minute increments); maybe house cleaning for widowed brother/sister (grown children must live >100 miles).
