I love to garden!!! My last house I had a veggie and herb garden. My husband and I also built a lovely japanese garden with a cool fountain in the middle. We sold the house though, and now I'm stuck in a tiny tiny apartment with no yard untill our new house gets finished. All i have now are house plants. I just bought 2 bird of paradise plants, and 3 bannana plants.
Who here loves to garden?

I agree sphere it's such a calming affect...getting in touch with nature and feeling the ground between your fingers. Time seems to stand still.

Obiwan,
Me too! i just get so happy when May comes. I am actually lost in winter. I need to be out there tending and transplanting and re-inventing. I love when the perennials start to bloom. I planted a lilac bush last spring and they are in bloom and smell wonderful! The tulips popped thru and we got a few days of pleasure before the deer ate them. grrrr. The perennials are great but I get more excited when I see them because I know that the weather is getting warmer and I can plant new things. I have so many plans this summer....God willing, I will get a full summer in this year of fun on my grounds. I find gardening to be so therapeutic and completely relaxing yet invigorating. Yup, by far my favorite hobby.....then it's cooking. I want to grow all of my own vegetables again but where I live now there are too many critters that trespass and rob my crops. My dad used to love to garden all day too. In my father's backyard as a small child (pre-dub days) is where I first learned of God by my dad who told me how amazed he was that God has created this for our enjoyment. My dad used to point out sunsets and praise God for their magnificance. Those were the days....I think of my dad everytime I garden. He is sick now and dying. I will always, always think of him when I am in my favorite place......my gardens. ouch.....I feel the tears coming again.......nite -

Just saw this post - I too love gardening, although am a "newbie" at it. Bought my house last year so this is the first year I've had a chance to do much with it. Where I am it's zone 5, and am trying to find good perennial groundcover that will withstand harsh winters.
Do you have any secrets as to what to plant for all-season blooms?

Three summers ago I planted a couple of vines and a fig tree in my meditteranean style garden. Now I sit under the vine with my Missus playing backgammon and drinking Greek brandy - no kidding!

Hi ascot,
I have to check where zone 5 is ......lol......but I am in PA and it gets cold in winter but tons of ground covers survive// packasandra is on that comes to mind. A good three season perennials are the phlox.

DJ: pachasandra and phlox are duly jotted down in my garden notebook. Thanks!
