Ron. Pretty pointed midweek announcements clothing will not change. That means a poly car salesman suit is ok but not a harris tweed and sweater. Sisters had skirts that nearly dragged the floor.

Other part was to the affect "we are still the elders and run the show" do not do more than mention meeting to a df relative.

Lastly the beards are a disaster. 90% grew one but only 20% know how to trim.

As soon as wife and elderly brother are gone I'm out of here

The change to the appeal committee is relevant but in practice the appeals that I seen turned over were in fact the case of the subject expressing their repentance better and in a different way at the appeal.

This may be what is changing. Remember, the Appeal Committee is hand-picked by the CO. They are not just local elders chosen at random. These Company Men will be there to protect the Borg. They will be entrusted to determine if the person being DF could pose a risk to the Borg if they are DF. Does the case open up any kind of liability to the Borg? Does it in any way make it possible to bring a charge of them violating Human Rights?

They won't be there to determine repentance. They will be there to determine risk!

The new direction is if the person says they are repentant then that is enough.

Its gone from what the elders say to what the sinner says

I'll believe that after I see it in practice. Right now it's just words. Those words might be simply PR spin and Theocratic Warfare (aka LIES).

We can be sure there will be much said in private elders meetings with COs and at KM Schools. BUT we can also be sure that it all will be leaked. There are NO such things as secrets anymore.

Yes. That was very obvious with Sanderson's patriotic Norwegian tie in the video.

So transparent, I mean embarrassingly so.

You’ve said this a few times, but it sounds like your interpretation of some circuit overseer’s interpretation. (And the constant use of the phrase ‘the direction’ or ‘the new direction’ sounds a bit culty.) Where is it actually stated in any official document from the Watch Tower Society?

Yes there are no real consequences now for going against direction. Sure elders may talk to you and you can just ignore them. It’s very hard to get announced that you are no longer a JW. Even if it comes to this it’s just a 90 day thing then the elders are begging you to come back

The "agnostic" part of PIMA is doing some incredibly heavy lifting, and it's a smokescreen.

What if you decide not to do any heavy lifting? JW light means only very light lifting. Go to meetings if you feel like it, very seldom in person just stay on zoom most of the time.

go to ministry groups for the nice social aspect but don’t ever do door to door. This is what many are doing.

we sometimes see faces we haven’t seen for a long time, but they come and talk as if they are still part of the congregation and they are. I love this it is encouraging for everyone who wants to be JW lite.

Apparently there’s a video at the summer convention that promotes shunning of faders who doubt the truth or even just faders in general. How does this sit with the instruction last year to relax the shunning? It doesn’t. Perhaps the old service department/writing department split is alive and well, the writing department relaxing shunning and the service department busy reeling it back in again. What a mess. Some Witnesses I know fully embraced the end of shunning. How will they react to the new shunning video? They’ll probably fall back in line, mostly. But it does occur to me that in a straight out argument between a JW arguing for less shunning and a JW arguing in favour of shunning, it’s somewhat easier to quote the words in print than it is to quote the subtext of a video to buttress your point. So if it comes to that the liberal JW may have the upper hand. But in terms of vibes the new shunning video probably sets many back, especially hardliners who enjoy the shunning anyway.

Okay I’ve just watched the video now for myself and I don’t think it’s aimed at faders or reinstates shunning in general. It is specifically against people who openly criticise the organisation so I don’t think it’s much of a reversal as that was presumably always the case even under the relaxed shunning rules. Plus it’s only a couple of minutes, unless they play it again and again at the meetings after the convention, many will probably glaze over it.

. . . many will probably glaze over it.

And many more will simply sleep through it.
