Happy, Happy , Happy Birthday, K!
Sweetie, I agree with all the words above, the past is the past,, today is the first day of the rest of your life. And esp. Dave's advise sounds brilliant to me, have fun with your bonfire, make a little bbq out of it .
Dave,
In my younger days I took the green bible and rolled joints with the pages. Bible pages made great rolling paper.
Doesn't the ink on the pages make the joint less tasty? I have to say, I have thoght about it, picking out a page with texts about fornication, drugs and tattoo's, and just lighting it up for a big joint ..... oh the delightful irony. -

Happy Birthday K,,,,,,,,,,,,,, hope you have a great one to make up for all the ones you missed.
Ihave been trying for 2 years to reclaim my lost childhood, and I might add I am doing a good job of it.......,,,,,, seriously I know what you mean about this.
I had my first birthday celebration this past Dec, also, and i had three days to have some kind of special treatment just for me. I had friends I have met here on this forum send me gifts, cards and phone calls, and it made my day , something I have never experienced. If you ask me we dont have enough celebrations to celebrate each other.
I have celebrated some of the holidays too, Xmas didnt quiet feel right,,,,,not wrong either, just not into it really,,,,,,, but the families getting together was great.
Honestly , as Xena said and so did I , this Easter , we didnt know how to do it .........lol. thank god my neice helped my kids dye eggs and took them to her grannies for the day to hide and find the eggs.
I do plan on a big Thanksgiving and Xmas, this year with my own traditions and hope to really make it special for everyone.
I have only been out of the JW for a year,,,,,,,,,,being one my whole life and now life is so much better than I ever thought it would be.
I tell you what I do look forward to......something I have always adored,,,,,,,,,even as a JW from afar...... is Xmas lights on the house. It always seemed so sad,,,,,,,, to not have the only house in the neighborhood without lights,,,,,,,,,,,, it seemed to symbolized the true lack of life and light in the home as a JW.
Well this year,,,,,,,,,,the house is going to be lit up,,,,,,,,,and I hope everyone sees it, including the elder who lives down the street.
Hugssssssss to you K and again Happy Birthday

You all are the best!!
Thank you so much. My sweetie of a husband took me out shopping yesterday, I got some Body Shop stuff and I almost got a puppy! But my other two dogs would be jealous.
Nina, you have put it in perspective, I need to stop and thank God for all that I do have now.
It was really strange how this inescapable feeling of sadness and anger just came over me. I think I ususally prepare for it, I know I did last year and I skipped all the muck but i thought I'd be out of it this year. Well,I know better for next year. just always prepare!
Sometimes I think I am all right and then Wham, like Hobbes on Calvin, I am underneath it before I know it.
Lyin' Eyes, you call me up when you have questions about the Holidays, I will help you, I love the Holidays, and to help you make Christmas feel good, think about all the people that you love and are out trying to find gifts for. Christmas is a time of giving, Love and hope, in the darkest part of winter. When you go and find a gift for someone, always, always stop to ponder and reflect on the times you have had, and let the happiness they bring you bring up the season. then you won't get caught up in comercialism, and so exhausted. (sigh) I love Christmas.
Once again, you all are the best, thank you so much for accepting me for who I am.

Aojumper,
It's funny how those old memories come creeping back, isn't it? (Not really funny, just strange...)
I had my "first" birthday party about two years ago when I turned 40! My sister (who also is a former JW) was kind enough to invite her husband's family over to help me enjoy this first time, which was a bit awkward and embarrassing. I felt out of place, but it's getting better as the years go by and also better as I celebrate my daughter's birthdays (she turned 4 a few months ago).
I still feel awkward singing the "happy birthday" song. But my daughter doesn't. She loves it. And that's what it's all about for me personally.

Gopher,
That's awesome, So glad to hear you have taken the JW out of your child. I think celebrating is a normal part of a childs interaction, I think it comes naturally to us, and it is un-natural to not celebrate.
I know the awkwardness and weirdness it is to celebrate when you never have, last year we went to the Cheesecake factory and it was really strange to do the whole thing, then they sang my name wrong, and so that only added to the whole uncomfortableness. But in the end it was pretty good.
We should have online birthday parties here!!
Anyone!!

Do I dare send a card w/$ to my Niece for her 16th in a few days? I love the idea, and I
have to think she would love getting it~but since she got pulled into JW 8 yrs ago I
have respected their "rules". HMMM...rules are made to be broken, so, why not?!!
Did any of you ever receive secret cards/gifts when you were growing up? If so,
how did it go for you?
