lol I see what you did there.

You have to compare Australian jws against the Australia population, and US jws with the US population for a truly accurate (and fair) comparison.

Its not even a valid comparison to compare Australian jws with the US population.

    STEPHANE LALIBERTE:

I don’t know but I have a sneaking suspicion the JWs will continue to write things down. They’ll just be less obvious about it.

I remember back in the day when the JWs were told to respect No Trespass and other signs indicating the people wanted no callers. I was with a clueless JW who did not notice or care there was a No Trespassing sign. I had to pull her back and she acted like I was getting all bothered about nothing. Yeah, I didn’t want some screwball going off on us. Door to door was bad enough without that happening.

I think the JWs will APPEAR to make it look like they are complying. But, we all know what that means.

You have to compare Australian jws against the Australia population,

In Australia, the rate is: 1 victim per 4,317.32.

So, in Australia, a JW kid is twice (2.3%) as likely to be sexually abused compared to a "worldly" kid

Note: 5559 sexual abused in 2015-2016 against a population of 24 million.

    What are you doing?

You are trying to compare one year of abuse cases in Australia to 65 years of cases with jws. Where’s the fairness in that?

To make it fair, we will take what was submitted to the ARC concerning abuse cases in WT from August 2015-August 2016.

In 2015-16 there were 67,748 jws in Australia. The branch submitted 17 reports to the ARC during that time span (two decided not to report as they were adults). But I’ll roll with 17. There were 5559 against a population of 24 million on the same time span for Australia has a whole.

That’s a ratio of 1 victim per about 4,000 members, which is still slightly higher than the ratio for the population of Australia.

The higher the population, the more cases, but the lower ratio. The lower the population, the lower the number of cases, but the higher the ratio.

It’s much more productive to compare similar groups of an equal or similar size or the numbers will always be skewed, especially when you’re trying to compare 24 million to a paltry 67,700.

Shucks, even one case in Australia means you have a one in 24 million chance of getting abused. One case in WT mean you have a one in 67 thousand chance. The rate will ALWAYS be higher.

Yes I agree you will probably still get enthusiastic witnesses surreptitiously writing down details of a good call. If there were fines in place for doing so though it would have to be discouraged at their service meetings. They would have to emphasise the importance of getting permission. This would perhaps be practiced in the service meeting - the new wording could be put into those videos they use now. They did something similar when the magazines went to being free with a donation. People had to get used to saying the new wording. That is quite a good example actually because many JW's refused to use the wording & simply gave the mags away without asking for donations. That could well happen here too, and JW's might not bother asking permission as they are told & write it down anyway.

If the new rules affect the taking of not at homes then that is very disruptive and can't be got around so easily. Its an entire formalised part of their ministry. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Doubter: I think you're done. You're only here to obfuscate WTS crimes and troll, not to contribute to any meaningful discourse.

Simon, wait., dont banish him just yet!

I agree that Doubter is a serious pain. In one of our previous thread about the involvement of the Watchtower with the UN, he wasn't providing any logical arguments. Even in this thread, he referred to the letters from Paul in the bible as field service notes. Crazy..

Yet, concerning the pedophiles, his arguments are not completely crazy!

His stand presently is that, statistically speaking, it is not much worst in the JW population compared to the rest of the world. I am not saying he is right, but the argument is at least valid when you compare the stats in Australia.

That being said, on moral grounds, it is absolutely despicable that the Witnesses would not report it to the police, but we never truly examine the question: what are the results from the police?

I am not saying he is right, all I am saying is that his arguments, including the crazy once, could help in looking at this topic from a different angle.

The objectives I seek is to look at things in the angle the JWs try to. And it can help to have someone volunteering to do just that, even if sometimes, he clearly goes off rails.

Simon knows what's up. Like his predecessors he's only here to do what Simon alluded to. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. It doesn't make him any less broken and we know who he is and what he's up to from soooo many previous interactions. You can go to Topix and probably get your insights there if you love chatting with him.

If Watchtower lived up to their claims of being “without spot from this world” they would be blazing a trail on how religious institutions could be superior in protecting children from sexual abuse. Instead they have proven to be the most egregious, only making changes when forced to do so by secular authorities. When they bleed enough money they may eventually raise their hand and accept how horrific their policies have been but don’t hold your breath.

Comparing statistics and finding the Watchtower record is the same, better or worse is pedantic at best and a straw man. It is all horrible and society should do better in every arena that must deal with child sexual abuse.

However successful law enforcement is or is not in prosecuting does not absolve anyone of the necessity to report abuse to authorities who are far better equipped to address the issue and protect other children.

Yeah, put that way, you're probably right. The none-sense he has pushed on before... it exacerbates logical debates.

It is true that we are by and large against the WT, however, we have proven time and again that we are willing to admit when we are wrong.

That being said, I saw in this thread that Doubter conceded to some logical arguments and thus, perhaps I was hoping he was changing a bit. But I guess I must also admit that the majority of his interaction within this site seem to be primarily troll the other members. So, yeah... Simon, do what you will.
