For the same reasons jw's reject Christmas they use the name jehovah.

Dec 25 is the recognized day to celebrate the birth of Christ in the world.- we use Jehovah because it is the recognized name of the father in the world.

It Dishonors Jesus because we don't know the actual date of Jesus birth- even though we don't know the actual pronouncing of gods name it brings honor to God to use it

Even though the angels rejoiced at the birth of Jesus, no where in the Bible does it say we should celebrate it. Even though no where in the Bible does it say Christians are to be witnesses of Jehovah, we proudly bear his name!.

I once told some elders: people can rationalize anything.

My family and I commonly celebrate birthdays a day before or a day later as it helps with schedules so everyone can attend. It doesn't "dishonor" the persons be doing so. Just the opposite - we all have a good time celebrating our family member's birth.

There is no law or tradition that demands birthdays be celebrated or that they not be celebrated or that they can only be celebrated on the actual calendar day of birth.

Jehovah's Witnesses are the true masters of making up whatever they want as "truth" and then grasping at straws to justify it with erroneous reasoning and taking scripture out of context.

It’s all bout socially isolating members from non-members.

It's nothing more than 'socially isolating' family members from non-members.

That sentiment is shared a lot. JW's mind get shaken ''awake'' and realize,,,,,''WTF is wrong with Christmas?'' '''its' amazing''

They want their members to be as isolated as possible and not hear conversations amongst relatives who observe the holidays.

It's sad when you read a post that might as well have been cut and pasted from the Reasoning book.

    No original thinking at all.

    Just parroting the company line.

    VIDIOT & BETH SARIM:

Exactly. The REAL reason they don’t want members to celebrate Christmas and other holidays is to keep them away from non-Witness relatives and friends.

They use the excuse ‘it’s pagan’ as a cover. The problem is many things have a pagan origin such as the calendar, etc. No, they’re afraid a JW may have a good time if they associate with non-JW relatives and friends. God forbid they experience acceptance and love from people who aren’t judging them (like the people in the hall). Maybe they won’t want the vacuum of a religion any more.

To a person who wasn’t born in who joined the JWs later, the pleasant association may remind them of what they miss!.. To somebody born in, the pleasant association is something they never had with the JWs and they may want more!

"Exactly. The REAL reason they don’t want members to celebrate Christmas and other holidays is to keep them away from non-Witness relatives and friends." Spot on ! Once your find out how wonderful your "worldly" family and friends are, your J.W "conditional" family and friends are just not of an acceptable standard.

I don't know for sure, but it was, I think, the desire to make the Bible Students stand out somewhat that Russell used the name Jehovah so much, and certainly it was big part for the choice of name for the group that Rutherford made.
