You could also say that no one is going to confuse your car with all the Toyotas in everyone else's driveways.

That must have some big-ass batteries in it to go 500 miles on a charge.

Just as with all electric vehicles, I cannot imagine what the cost of a new battery would be as it slowly wears out.

But the more I look at it, the more "interesting" it becomes.

Elon Musk didn't become the visionary that he is based on following someone else's ideas.

People like him and Richard Branson (Virgin Airlines) are so far ahead of the curve that it is truly fascinating to see what they think of next.

Musk is sinking. As more main stream company's build cheaper better electric cars Tesla and its struggles will only get worse. He did not even start Tesla but bought it. He is constantly wrong on his production and financial predictions. Its pure smoke and mirrors.

He's not really that far ahead of the curve. What he does is announce thing way in advance, then technology catches up (other mainstream manufacturers are putting $ into research) and voila, he looks like a "futurist".

Really, he's a dope smoker who can't run a car factory production line as well as Henry T managed to.

At under 40,000 US, I don't know how he could pull that off. The batteries alone would have to cost nearly half of that. Even a Jeep Wrangler is in the 40,000 range now. A truck like that with the torque of an electric motor, in a 4x4 configuration ... wow. Only to dream.

    We shall see.

(PS, Simon, I do agree that he is probably smoking dope to do what he is claiming to do at 40k).

Yeah, I know what happened here. Happens all the time... behind these shenanigans is marketing, sales, and PM.

It’s a new product, and marketing has been working on it for months. They are hyping it up in all sorts of ways and the sales guys have been making calls and just waiting to earn a commission on this. Timetables get accelerated. They are making all sorts of promises, and the people who actually create the product are not consulted about all the optimism. At some point someone schedules a demo. Probably a combination of a project management and sales. Emails go out with subjects like “Project XYZ competed and ready for production!” or “Come see project XYZ demo, full functionality!” The CEO is excited and gets involved.

Meanwhile the actual producers (manufacturers in this case), are sending emails left and right that this product is not done and won’t be fully complete for months. The project is, in fact, on schedule, but the new accelerated schedule is unreasonable. However, PM is low IQ by definition and interprets “This is not done” as “This will definitely be done”.

Somewhere along the way reality catches up and the smoke and mirrors come out. Demo the the truck, but we didn’t have time to get the window material back from the manufacturer and install them. So, we will put normal glass in and give you a square piece of the strong material for you to demo... to the left,.... NOT on the truck.

But that doesn’t get communicated up because, again, PM is low IQ.

So demo rolls around and someone says, “Throw the ball at the car.”

Until he actually delivers one at that price, he doesn't. Also, the 500 mile version is $70k ... wasn't that clear? That price gets you half as far ... if you could even drive it, which you can't.

Can you see the trick yet? Has anyone got the semi he promised yet? How about the SUV? Taking lots of down-payments for these future products is a good deal - get the money up front, wait a few years, deliver "a" product (maybe) when the cost to deliver isn't so high.

All he's delivered are electric cars, they are "OK", but other people make them too.

"I promise an electric plane for $100k, it'll be amazing". Do you want to invest?

Maybe in 5 years time technology will have improved and it can actually be built. If not, everyone will have forgotten about it.

That's not a truck. It's a suped up mess designed to be sold to yuppies that want to talk about their "truck" but wouldn't know how to drive a real truck if you gave it to them. I see them all over the place around where I live. They will really like to virtue signal that they're driving an electric "truck" but they are entirely ignorant of where the batteries come from, what it takes to make one, or where the electricity for it is generated.

Simon, I talk to some aviation people on another board. Make sure your electric plane is a hybrid. That way, when you actually need to take something somewhere in it, you can take the battery out and replace it with a gas tank. The battery will just about get you from Fort Worth to Dallas.
