WTC has become adept at using tragedy as a means of raising cash. For example, when Puerto Rico was devastated by a hurricane, WTC directed a large number of congregations to donate $1500 each in supplies that would be used for relief purposes.

It is not known how many congregations took part in this effort but the feedback suggests it was in the hundreds. However, the majority of those provisions were never used. What happened to the many pallets of supplies that were purchased and shipped to central locations waiting to be shipped to the poor JW’s in Puerto Rico? Eventually it was liquidated and the proceeds were absorbed by WTC.

This week hurricane Dorian pummeled the Bahamas and the congregations there were no doubt severely affected. Will WTC pull a play from the Puerto Rico situation and once again ask the congregations to contribute toward the relief effort?

There is no doubt that funds will be needed, but why not just send money to a relief organization that will diligently disperse the funds. Who knows, maybe some needy non-witnesses might also benefit. In any event, we can watch and see. Hey WTC – we are watching you! Do the right thing this time!!

Does anyone honestly think that happened ?

JWS are tight fistted even to their own.

Good point about why doesn't the WTS set up a relief fund to give to broad based organization that helps all people , not just JWS.

JWs only help other people who have JW stamped on their forehead, all others can wrought.

Thank you Barbara. I wonder if officially being seen to go through the motions of disaster relief helps their case when presenting the WT as a charitable organisation.

Pocketing the surplus is an added bonus.

I'll play the devil's advocate here, but how do you know this is what happened?

In any case, i'm sure all the prayers from JWs around the world will include requests for Jellohoba to "help the brothers and sisters in the Bahamas". And of course screw everybody else

Finkelstein, you said, "Does anyone honestly think that happened?" In my opinion, you sound so jaded. Would I lie? Perhaps you don't know the JW organization very well. Here in the South, there are many JWs that are financially very well off. In fact, there are millionaire JWs in some areas. Florida has an enormous population of retired wealthy JWs. I lived in Florida for 18 years and still have many contacts there.

I agree with the rest of your post, but I suggest you apologize to me, or is that too much to ask? My contacts do not lie but were personally involved in the story I posted.

I believe the WT snakes are capable of anything and you, Barbara, well KNOW they are. Cofty makes a great point re/their charitable status/image. I hear from my Morman friend how their church was the first in the territory aiding/helping the residents and I'd heard it was the Baptists (same castrophe) but maybe the cult WT needs to jump in the sandbox.

JWs need to pull the plug vs. allowing another "pull a play" but they're too clueless.

My comment was not intended to make your comment look like a lie , but rather a case of unlikely probability toward the end result, in that JW congregations would probably only put up $500 to $600 max.

Jws are known to be not very charitable people even within their own ranks, trust me on that.

    Love you Barb.

Thank you Barbara. We appreciate ALL that you and your husband do!! You are our hero's!

You are correct there are MANY wealthy JW's in the South Fla area. I have met many. They LOVE to drink too (not the cheep stuff)! lol I have witnessed that as well.

A still in JW family member ask us why WT has all these different "funds" they collect, why not just put it in one kittie (like the world wide work). Our response: Because they make more money when they produce a new "fund." If it didn't work, WT wouldn't continue doing it. She was speechless and the wheels were turning.

Thanks Barbara, more and more everything seems to be about creating ways to get money from people with this organization. When I was heading out I stopped putting any money in the box, picked a "worldly" charity and gave to them every month. At least you get some indication where the money is going.

Churches often act as collection stations for donations for disaster relief. They efficiently then pass it on to established charitable agencies set up for this purpose of importing and distributing supplies. In many countries it takes weeks or longer to clear things from the docks and then only after a few palms have been greased. It makes little sense for the WT to collect pallets of food and try to do it's own shipping.

Barbara, do we know what the supplies consisted of? Primarily building materials for the KHs and literature or was it food?
