    the Genesis account is the ONLY sensible explanation (going along with science) of how we got here

    Oh, I think there's a better explanation than that one.

    Can you imagine - that suddenly you just appear on a paradise - talk to god - get all you need - are told of an amazing future --- and then - a talking snake (good choice satan cuz snakes looks so cute, I would have picked a bunny but thats me) and you throw out your future - abandon your god who just created you no doubt in your mind - for a nice shiny apple.

    Oh by the way - Thanks dog for creating the concept and design of the FIRST WEAPON (flaming sword guarding the garden:) cuz that's just what a fledgling species needed. And I guess you gave them a heads up so they knew what a sword was and to be careful about it? By the way had they seen fire yet?

    @The Question,

    The Genesis account is not about HOW we got here. It is the Jewish RELIGIOUS explanation of what we believe is the place humanity plays in the fabric of the universe. There is no actual HOW included anywhere in Genesis.

    There are three creation stories in Genesis, namely the Week Paradigm, the Eden Narrative, and the Deluge Paradigm. All three employ a cosmology that did not originate with my people. We borrowed them from our Mesopotamian neighbors as a tableau into which we placed our own religious lessons about the Jewish meaning of life. The cosmology, however, came from the heathens and not from Jews.

    The Scriptures are not a book of history and science facts. The Scriptures are narratives that teach religious or philosophical truths. The idea that people like you who have no connection with the Jews and can't even read our Scriptures unless they are translated into your pagan tongue, yet decide that the Jewish purpose for the Scriptures should be ignored for your non-Jewish interpretation is insulting and ridiculous. You don't correctly interpret a book by ignoring the writers, their culture, and their family's explanation of what the book is about. It doesn't have to be anything more than a book of mythology if all it is doing is teaching religious lessons. Claiming it has to be historical and scientifically accurate for it to be true means you don't see a value in it as it is. That's a very insulting way to treat the culture of another people.

    @Azor

    I wasn't countering your post. I was explaining that the views on inspiration also include what I was adding. Your post was not incorrect, however.

    Human ignorance is an indefensible fact, all ancient mythological expressions are supportive toward that fact.

    Mankind has evolved in both intelligence and knowledge of the world in which we live and of are history.

    Some are willing to accept that knowledge and some are not willing due to their own inherent ignorance.

    Dub: Lol, Genesis has a literal talking snake and figurative creative days. It also has a God so stupid that he can't see that man needs a companion. I believe that the plants were created before the sun....

    Q: Don't parrots, porpoise, and whales talk? Proudly displaying your ignorance is tragilarious!

    Those of you ridiculing Genesis believe we made OURSELVES (i.e. 'evoliution'), don't know what OTHER religions claimed was our origin, and dismiss the FACT that the account is backed up by science....from THOUSANDS of years ago, before "science" existed.

    How unimpressive.

    Do you even know or understand what the evolutionary process is? If so what have you studied on the subject? "Made ourselves" really!

    The Bible is totally from men !! Many of the stories can be traced back to older stories and were either changed a little or the older story was a template for the new story that ended up in the Bible. Same can be said of the gods. Many of the stories were about other gods originally, then the god of the Bible was put in thier place even the god of the Bible changed or morphed in to a new god. He was originally El or Anu then Baal then possibly a midianite god then he took on the attributes of Enki ,Marduk ,AmenRa , Osiris.

    Same can be said of Jesus, he was a copy of Serapis then took on the attributes of Dionysos and others. Bible is definitely a man made book!!

    and dismiss the FACT that the account is backed up by science.

    There is nothing in the various Sciences to back or substantiate the Genesis Creation account, that's if you know what those sciences are, I'm getting the impression you don't.

    Really ??? I think we have a new loony tune among us.

    Putting your downright scary logic on display by picking only one argument that I made and then arguing it poorly is relignuttery. Very sad, but hey, you have the right to believe in whatever delusional story you want. Wear your fables like a badge of honor if you like, just don't pretend they aren't as fable-icious as those other books. Besides, the only good holy book is the "Book of Arnold" (see "The Book of Mormon" play). Whether it's the Bible, Book of Mormon, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, or any other work of fiction, they all deserve about the same level of respect. Remember, you were the one that asked the question here, don't hold your breath and pout just because you don't like the answers.
