Have You Ever Experienced God?

With all the confusion between both camps when it comes to discussing God,the Bible, and Jesus, including the various doctrinal matters,a friend of mind told me none of it matters to him because he has evidence of God's existence through his personal experience with God.

When I asked him about it he said he couldn't explain it that I would have to experience it for myself.I told him it has never ever happened to me.

Have you ever experienced God so that you could lay to rest all the why for's of things and just settle down and go on with the rest of your life and face death with confidence knowing beyond a doubt that you will be with God when you pass on.

Well, you know you are framing the question with some assumptions there. Some people don't think of God as separate so there is no being "with" God. But regardless, there are a couple of interesting points here.

I imagine a lot of people are interested in laying to rest all the questions they have in their mind, what I would suggest that people look at is simply who has these questions? What I finally found is that it is the ego that asks these question, even if the ego is putting on a spiritual face. However, at the same time I realized that what they call the ego is not an entity in itself, it's simply the complex of conditioned behavior that we have, there is very much an impersonal feel to it.

This leads into the second point, where you mentioned facing death with confidence. In a sense, you already died when identity drops away - which is what renders the ego as simply a bundle of conditioning and not a solid entity which one can call "me." (if nothing else we can see it changes all the time, even if only in small ways) Now this may sound kind of weird or even spooky to a lot of people, but I can tell you that there is simply no suffering then even if you feel pain - because these states just pass naturally, there is no hanging on to any kind of identity which would perpetuate it through resistance. You end up flowing through life quite effortlessly because you're basically in harmony with life, not in resistance to it. In that sense you die in every moment anyways, but you are born as something new at the same time - just two faces of change.

In quite a few posts here recently, I have made reference to "touching the Light." This touching the Light is the same as having a direct experience with the indwelling spirit of God.

And your friend is correct. To those who have had this experience also, no words of description are necessary. To those who have not as yet had this experience no number of words would ever suffice to describe the experience.

But it is a wholly transcendent experience, I can tell you that

The experience of God has been described in depth by the great sges and avatars of history. In attempting to describe this "enlightened state" words have proved insufficient for most of these "masters". In my opinion, any true enlightened being has merely removed the obstacles that have blocked " the light" from shining forth in themselves. Once these layers have been removed, God is allowed to shine through and become manifest as the All knowing presence of existence, and this condition is indescribable, no words are needed, or do the condition justice. This "state" of enlightenment is a subjective state that can be achieved by any sincere spirtual seeker, and may occur at a moments notice. Meditation, just sitting in silence and connecting with what you truly are is a quicker pathway to the "real you" than contemplating the ridiculous postulations and errant reasonings of the watchtower. We ALL are destined to someday reach the enlightenment of God ,realized as our own Selves. The sooner we each individually reach this foregone conclusion, the sooner we can truly enjoy the complete and total happiness that is our true infinite inheritance. Now I have to get back to my Watchtower lesson.

    YES

in the hold of my new-born babes

in the touch of a summer breeze

in the smell of a spring rain

in the crash of the waves on the shore

in the shadow of the setting sun

in the grasp of my grand-daughter's arms around my neck

in the sound of the wind through the trees

in the sound of a bird... or a whale... or the purr of my cat nestled on my lap

in the love in my heart

    God is all around me

    Have You Ever Experienced God?

    MAYBE

    - While being abused by a cousin

    - After my best friend was killed by her father

    - When my family disowned me

    - While children starve everyday

    - While the earth is polluting

or what about Acts of God:

    - floods killing hundreds

    - earthquakes destroying property and people

    - forest fires killing wildlife

    - meteors annihilating innocent dinosaurs

    - tornadoes destroying everything in their path

    --------------

    - cancer

    - AIDS

    - multiple sclerosis

    - cerebral palsy

    - sickle cell

Some of these are my experiences, most personal, some not. Are they evidence of a "god"? Maybe.

Thanks Lady-Lee for reminding me. I've been so down in the dumps today. I wrote this list a couple of months ago. I needed to see it to remind me that life is what you make it. Yes I have experienced God. It was the most profound experience, totally unexpected, and I kept thinking this is going to end in a few seconds, but it must have lasted about 15 minutes. No I was not on drugs. It was during a quiet moment, and I just let it flow. It was total euphoria. Ithink this is just a small glimpse of what Paradise must be like. I think we are so task oriented...if I do this, this, then that, then I will be happy, but if we would just sit still long enough, that paradise is everywhere, if we just take the time to look around. So this is my list, and Lady Lee thanks again.

These are some of my favourite things:

the smell of a new-born baby

the nape of my daughters neck when she was a baby

a note from my daughter with I love you

my son hugging my neck when he was a baby

my now 6'3" son hugging me

going camping near the north sea when I was a child

walking along the sea shore, sea shells, sand dunes

    a sunny spring day

    Z

flowers; especially white ones, hydraenges, roses, lilacs, hyacinths

    siberian tigers

sharing a belly laugh with friends

spending time with a dear friend

    summer rain

    a gentle snow fall

    loons

my dream of living in a cottage all year round somewhere on the water, possibly Northern Ontario HI

    a cozy home,

    lighting candles

    reading a book

talking to my oldest brother long distance (he’s in Houston)

I hate to play Devil's Advocate but, knowing how susceptible the human mind is to delusion, how does anyone who's had a "mystical" experience of "God's presence" know that they haven't created this feeling themselves? I've sometimes *thought* certain things so deeply that feelings of euphoria take over. God? Perhaps. But, my skeptical side must be cautious.

    BTW, I hope it's true
