Interesting that you say the term “religion” is hilarious because I’ve thought the same thing myself.

Terms like “publisher” always made me feel weird. In my early days, I refused to even open their magazines and would only use the bible. Even funnier, when I first got involved with the Witnesses, I didn’t even think I was getting involved with a religion. I saw it as a movement of some sort. Oh well. The difference I suppose that distinguishes a religion is that it would have to have some kind of mystique or smoke and mirrors- to give it a connection to the Divine. Otherwise it’s just another club. Funny how hindsight is 20//20. Well, I’m glad I’m out now.

But..getting back to the original topic of congregation deletion: if this keeps up unabated and if they keep selling off hall after hall - they are going to cause a crisis among the faithful JWs who are going to be abandoned if they cannot get to a distant hall. Needy types with their hands out will be distressed by this.

It’s going to be like that game of musical chairs. When the music stops, somebody is left without a chair. Well, if they sell off enough kingdom halls some Witnesses are going to be in the same predicament IMO!

Rattigan350 - "On Sept 1, our congregation will be dissolved..."

    And you're not... disappointed?

    I'm confused.

    (I can't find a "sarcastic" emoji)

LongHairGal - Valid points but I it's hard to imagine their business model going bust. Guess it's not as solid as decades ago when people were into religion and no internet reality -- now the possibility of an avalanche of pedophile lawsuits all over the world.

When you refer to the "Needy types" or those who go around at the meetings for handouts -- I had no idea they did this on a regular basis to collect money. I'm sure you had your fill of these slugs. Guess they just expect others to share -- not that anyone would want them to go without shelter/food, medicine, etc., but thought the clergy class took care of this. Guess they ask for handouts only for the prominent (special/power clique) ones or that's how it was here.

Collecting money is done quietly and privately..A brother taps you on the shoulder...Years ago early 90s I had it happen to me twice. In one case it was for somebody who was going through a ‘crisis’.. When I was in a car group one bro I was friendly with told me he and some other bro were asked to contribute $ for a sister who couldn’t pay her car insurance. These things were a rarity then.

Fast forward to now...with what’s happened over the last two decades with the economy; bethelites fired and dumped in local congregations; lawsuits; people at retirement age who did not plan (thanks to the religion telling them Armageddon would be here) - the story is drastically different. Now..I started my ‘fade’ around 2001 and had some associations with JWs. One of them told me about how she was approached to give for somebody, etc.

I was a person who PREDICTED there was going to be a serious problem for JWs who refused to work full time or plan for their retirement..I even said I didn’t want to be anywhere NEAR these people when reality hit them..Well..reality has hit in the JW religion....Do you think I would want to be around the hard luck stories and crazies there now?? No way.

LongHairGal - it's gone from bad to worse. I was always being hounded yrs. ago in one way or the other. They were poor back then or too lazy to work climbing the WT echelon to fit in with the hard-liner clique. Made me sick. They needed everything from cars to rent money plus taking advantage of every state aid program imaginable but kept it quiet. So much for the scripture if one doesn't work they don't eat. If they did work they expected a week's pay for 2 hrs. of ineptness.

They say it is not about numbers but about making best use of resources.

Consolidation is happening in my area - my old hall and 2 others are dissolved and moved into 4 others.

Again - what happened to we need THOUSANDS of halls right away (2014/15).

And give us all your money so we can build these THOUSANDS of halls?

And what about - oh sorry - our bad - here is your money and ownership of your Halls (that you paid for) back.

    FRAUD!!!!

Exactly, there is a couple here that have been very vocal over the last 30 or so years talking about how any one who plans for retirement has been blinded by the devil. It's very obvious that the end is so near....they used to continually say. They are now both very close to retirement age with no savings, dont own a house and are very worried about how they are going to live once retired. I could hold back and made sure they realised why they have got themselves in this mess. I was told in no uncertain terms that is not the reason. Meanwhile they continue to lap up the nonsense coming out of WT.

It sort of sounds like your KH is being disfellowshipped.

Maybe after some time has passed, it will be reinstated.
