All they seem able to do are half-assed software patches, like Splane's whiteboard overlapping explanation.

Think about it. To move up the “spiritual” ladder in the Jehovah’s Witness religion a person must follow direction. Independent thinking is not allowed. Natural born leaders are never promoted in the religion. Most times they are run off or take the hint and leave.
Those that make it to the top are all too afraid to make the hard choices to turn the ship around.

I 100% agree. There just hasn't been anybody to fill his shoes. It's not that he was really as smart as JWs made him out to be; he just had the right mix - some intelligence, some education, an element of mystery, an element of eccentricity, reclusiveness, etc. Also, he came along at the right time considering world events, the situation in the org, etc.
It was easier back then for one person to be really influential because the GB did not have the power it has today. It would be difficult today for one individual to promote ideas and doctrines that the other members virtually have to accept. Today, it's more rule by committee. Franz would not have been as influential had he come along now in the org because all his ideas would have to be approved, whereas, back then, his stuff was just published (maybe checked by Knorr) and the others had to accept it.

The real reason the WT is in decline---Is because we live in a different world.
We live in a world with INSTANT ACCESS TO KNOWLEDGE.
WT was born in a time of IGNORANCE.
WT prospered when there was no INTERNET or Exposure of Child Abuse.
The LAST DAYS DOCTRINE HAS LIVED ITS COURSE------it's over!
The only ones holding the fort are the remnants of believers who were waiting for the Great Tribulation to start.-----ELDERLY JWS!
Once they are gone.....................................it's over!
The basic fundamental fact is its harder to bullshit people with religion now days, people are better educated, they are more aware of charismatic religious leaders who make outlandish claims (prophecies) that they use to allure people to their organization, maybe to their literature they are promoting.
We as a human species are evolving in our way of thinking. Rationality has replaced the past. The only religions that will survive are ones that encourage doubt and truth seeking. That is certainly not evangelical Christianity and especially not Jehovah's Witnesses.

I have to say that the Henschel presidency at first got me to high expetations. Change would come. And some things did change. The blood fractions, voting allowed in theory, the sheep and the goats. The JW media office, Jim Pelechia and Jolene Chu who did a lot with history of ww2.
Wrebel, the German JW at Selters with the historical research.
And then, all went silent when Henschel died.
I remember the 90's were years we hoped for change that did not came.
And now we have the GB clowns presenting the jw media channel.
