I would make one correction: most (if not all) of them believed that they would serve at Bethel in "the short time remaining before the end." They did not expect to be lifers, because they believed that the end was so close that they would not see advanced age before it happened.

I bet that when they saw older Bethelites being sent home, they thought "it won't happen to me, the end is too close." But that is what those older Bethelites once thought, too. And back then they figured that Jehovah would take care of those loyal brothers and sisters. I wonder if they are so confident about that now? I assume that is what they are told as they are being dismissed-- that Jehovah will take care of them.

I have to agree that most thought being a Bethelite was "For Life", or at least thru to the "New System of Things."

In fact, even in the 80's I recall the push was to forgo any sort of education and make Pioneering in order to get into a Bethel a priority. It was seen as kind of a meal ticket to Paradise. Once you were "in", you were set! Out of the wicked world and safe in "God's House."

After the multiple rounds of Bethel lay-offs in the past 25 years, you'd have to be a complete MORON to think that you'd be able to be a "lifer" now. It's plain as day that they use people up in their prime, then kick them to curb as they age but before they become a liability.

What a shameless, cruel, money-grubbing CULT!

    Great share, Longy -- thanks.

Dagney - I've never met one outsider who was positive about the corporation - always negative. I'm sure many are embarrassed to be affiliated with WT.

    Yeah..

They all shared the sentiment that the Borg would take care of them. The ""end is so close". They clearly bought into Borgs nonsensical rhetoric..

Armageddon is allllways no nore than 2 or 3 years away right??? It wont matter.

We see this playing through & victimizing subsequent generation & ,subsequent generation.

And it continues....& will continue.....as long as each subsequent generation buys the Borgs nonsense.

Having no marketable skills,,no job either,,,no paycheck,,poor & living with the cockroaches in the projects.

Are the congregations encouraged or pressured to provide for the ex-Bethelites? The real estate corp is so greedy grabbing all the JWs monies - they don't believe nor care about charities, holidays, families, children, the disadvantaged. Horrific!

Perhaps the worldlies should start a charity to care for the abused victims of the WT real estate corporation.

Any one who ESCAPED the miserable, abusive, WT, should count their lucky stars.

What a gift having eyes wide open to the horror.

But as long as each subsequent generation(s) buy the Borgs nonsensical nonsense,,,,, we will see this tragedy repeatedly happen.

Armageddon will always be no more than 2 or 3 years away. As long as generations come and go,,, and keep believing thay Jehovah will take care of this ''soon"",,,,,this will always happen.

We're just seeing it happen to another generation.
