I don’t even feel sorry for them and feel that in 2024 if anybody is ignorant about the Jehovah’s Witness religion, it is by choice.
👍 I couldn't agree more!

I wonder if they were annoyed that you set them up with leading questions, or if they recognized that this is their own approach to preaching. That always felt a bit like selling snake oil. Maybe they felt a bit uncomfortable at the next stop. Probably not, but maybe...
TonusOH...some of the questions I ask them, they ask me back, like would Jesus do that-as in expect money from the government? and I would say no. Sometimes when they queried back, I would pin them down with what do you think. At anyrate, they were in agreement with what I was saying about religions making money from the governments and investments in war equipment UNTIL I told them JW did it and it was how do you know and they started to down play it. I hope the conversation sticks with them and annoys them into research. I think they felt comfortable with my questions because they were clueless that JWs were who I was speaking of because I would say, what do you think of a religion that would..........?
Once they are caught in the ways and mode of operations of lies and falsehood they used in calling others false Christians, the next thing is to downplay it or project it on others

We were taught to always have control of the conversation. It had to be a one-way thing. It's okay for them to preach to you, but they really fear that someone will preach back to them. I will give them this much, they seemed earnest enough to stick around until the brother came along to save them (lol). He sounds like he was more aware of the approach-- if things aren't going according to script, get out of there ASAP.
I am also hopeful that there was enough of a seed planted that they won't be able to resist looking up more info. Or even to ask an uncomfortable question or two. I think some JWs wake up when they ask a reasonable question and are shot down with implied threats of sanctions or removal.
As stated above, it's the Year of Our Lord, 2024! Anything can be looked up, cross-referenced, checked, etc about any subject. Instead of JW leadership hitting back with facts that would back up their claims, they instead use fear, obligation, and guilt to bully the membership into willful ignorance and a spiritual gulag.
The only people ignorant about the dubious, criminal, money-grubbing habits of cults such as the JW's, Mormons, and Scientology, are the very members themselves. They are deliberately kept in a bubble as to remain ignorant as to how badly they are being bent over and fleeced by their OverLords.
Increasingly, these cult members resemble more and more the prisoners of North Korea. Even the literature now resembles North Korean propaganda. It's really something to "witness" from outside of their bubble. Attempting to puncture their bubble results in them going into full denial, plugging their ears, and then running away like a petulant child.
"Even the literature now resembles North Korean propaganda"
The latest stuff turns two millennia of understanding of passages about showing kindness to others (the Good Samaritan, be doers of the word, etc.) and focuses those to being about "supporting" Jesus' brothers*, i.e. the GB.
*Their twisting of that term. For two thousand years Jesus' brothers have always** been understood as being the followers of Jesus. It was Rutherford who created the two-tier, two-caste system out of whole cloth.
** One of the apologists for the Watchtower understanding digging out a quote from some obscure church father notwithstanding.
Instead of telling them the real source, we could say "I heard this from an old friend, a Watchtower staff member, investigator for the writing comitee who knows Steven Lett and some other GB members".
Would see the face of Jo Publisher then.

I've noticed this "Where did you hear that?" question too from my own mother when I tell her some incontrovertible truth that proves conclusively the wt teachings are a pile of crap.
It's as if they are desperate to rubbish the source of the information so they can then go back to their superior, brain washed state...
This weekend: Here is a picture found on Facebook of one JW convention. Looks a bit sparse for the “fastest growing religion”.
