Did You Miss Playing Sports?

How many of you missed playing sports in school? I know I did. The WT was merely trying to keep us from committing suicide.... how loving.

Take a look at this fear mongering :

    Problems With Sports Today - g91 8/22 p. 5

"PEOPLE used to argue that sports were of value because they built character.... such arguments sound hollow, even hypocritical.

The emphasis on winning is particularly a problem. Seventeen magazine calls this “a darker side of sports.” Why? Because, to quote the magazine, “winning overrides concerns about honesty, schoolwork, health, happiness, and most other important aspects of life. Winning becomes everything.”

...Kathy Ormsby, a U.S. collegiate track star... illustrate(s) the sad consequences of overemphasis on athletic achievement.... a few weeks after setting a national collegiate women’s record in the 10,000-meter footrace, Kathy veered off the track...ran to a nearby bridge, and jumped off in an attempted suicide. She survived, but she was paralyzed from the waist down."

What Watchtower fails to tell the reader is that Kathy had three panic attacks in previous races and that "athletic achievement" did not cause her to jump off the bridge. She later claimed to have mental and emotional issues.

“People say I did it because I wasn’t winning the race. I won very few races. That wasn’t it. It’s like I was out of control.”

Thanks Watchtower for lying to our parents and ruining our childhoods.

Exercising sports is for a good mind and body, has nothing to do about winning. WT is all about "winning" actually as they have always claimed to be the ONLY true organisation that has God's approval (taking the no. 1 spot), and JW's are better off than "wordly people"...taking again the no. 1 spot.

Following their "advice" will create more obese people, with poor mental state.....

Yep, no sport, no school dances, no school camps, no further education, no worldly friends around to the house after school. You give up everything, including your youth, and when you get older and start asking questions, you lose your jw friends and family too.

Yes, I found that there was almost nothing salvageable from my JW past.

The WT is the grift that keeps on grifting.

That’s why many of us are social retards. We miss out on normal interaction in our youth that affects us our whole lives.

Yes, I hated being the outsider, always looking in, but never allowed to be part of anything at school. One teacher even put a comment on my report card that she thought it would be good for me to join the Girl Scouts. My parents, of course, poo-pooed that suggestion. No Christmas, birthdays, Halloween, Easter, etc. No after school sports, clubs, no school dances, no Prom, nothing. If you say you’re unhappy, they tell you to study the Watchtower more, or go in service more. I HATED going in service.

While I was never sexually molested, I learned about oral and anal sex at the Kingdom Hall, along with what an orgy is. I was 10 or under. This so-called ‘religion’ is harmful on so many levels.

I wanted to play basketball in high school. My high school PE teachers were the football coaches and they wanted me to play center. I new there was no way my parents would ever allow that. My dad was an elder and would say, "If you play football in high school you can never be appointed as a Ministerial Servant or Elder."

I played in an adult league when I was in my early 20s. That was fun! I just kept it to myself.

As a parent my wife and I encouraged all our children to be involved in something at school. All our kids played sports for at least one school year. They also participated in band, orchestra, and theater. We couldn't be prouder of our kids.

I'm 42. I was not allowed ANYTHING "extra-curricular" including sports of any kind or clubs.

If it wasn't for the religion, it was deemed "not necessary." I didn't have a childhood.

Imagine my rage at attending the PO's (COBE) funeral in 2008, and hearing all about how he played high school sports including basketball and baseball, and how he set up Congregation games, etc. Funny, I was NEVER invited to these ,or even heard of them!

Better still, imagine my rage at seeing the plans for the new WT HQ before it was built, and seeing tennis courts, basketball courts, gyms, etc provided for the Bethelites. I could barely see straight!!! All growing up we were told and shown straight from the WT mags how sports were WRONG, promoted a worldly attitude of the "spirit of competition" which was straight from Satan himself - and THEN to find out that higher ups and even the Bethelites get to enjoy these things???? Incredible, just incredible! And to think, they get to enjoy all of this on the donations of the rank-n-file Sheeple who are denied the same luxuries and exercise outlets?

What a bunch of fuggin' hypocrites these douchebags are! Truly, in WT-Land, it's "Rules for thee, but not for me!"

    Fuck this cult.

    WC,

You make VERY good points. What kinds of things are you doing now to compensate (fight back)?

Oh, I've been out over 20 years, so I do what I want. I'm very physically active, and weight lift and train for over 20 years. I also eat healthy, hike, cycle, travel, etc. I've climbed to Machu Picchu in Peru, as well as Pike's Peak in Colorado.
