Seems President Bush is somewhat peeved that Canada is considering legalizing small amounts of marijuana............those who have small amounts would no longer face jail time, but it would basically be treated as a traffice ticket.

Hmmmmmm.............not sure what I think about this. Pot stinks to high heaven (no pun intended) and I don't want someone blowing it in my face...........any thoughts? Think it should be legalized?

The fact of the matter is, alcohol is legal, it has worse affects on the human body than mary jane, this is fact. You can't OD and kill yourself on mary jane, but you can on alcohol. Ask any cop, who he would rather deal with, a drunk idiot, or a stoner, high on a little weed. Stoners are usually pretty complient to authoritarian command, drunks aren't. It doesn't make any sense to put people in prison for using something like that, it only costs tax payers money, and it doesn't stop the problem, hello look at history, prohibition doesn't work. During alcohol prohibition, the murder rate went up 10 fold, the only people making money on it, was organised crime. After alcohol prohibition was lifted, the murder rate went down 10 fold. Fetal alcohol syndrome is a terrible thing to do to a child, there has been no significant dammage shown from use of mary jane during pregancy (not suggesting anyone use anything while pregnant, because there are always exceptions, better to be safe). So who really cares what that coke snorting idiot thinks?

If you decriminalize something you are bound to take the criminal element out of it. Yes, that is an oversimplification, I know...I don't care. :p I think many things should be legalized within reason. Maybe it's just because I like cheeba...LOL! Maybe not. :) ~Azzy

I think that the legalizing of small amounts of MJ makes a lot of sense. The judicial system can only enforce up to that point the people will tolerate.

Even though I don't like to see it, I think that MJ should be handled like we do tobacco and alcohol.

Taxing it will help cover rehab costs and doing this will take it out of the criminals hands. This will lower the number of people we support in jail and the criminal acts surrounding its import and sales.

It bothers me that this might lead to even more drugs being "legalized" but we have to do something about this situation. The criminal court system is overloaded with pot users on trial. The prisons are filled with people who are not really dangerous criminals. Only pot users. This would also relieve some of the strain on the police agencies who are involved in enforcing drug laws and either lower the costs or they can be used in fighting terrorism.

Hmmm.... Being from Canada, I can give an opinion, I guess...
Mariguana, in small quantities, is no worse for you than alcohol. Basic fact. It is people who smoke this stuff every day that are the problem - they become "burn victims". You can spot them 66 miles away. (for my Canadian Brothers, that's 145.2658974566 Km's). The gov't is not "legalizing" it, just "decriminalizing" it. That means that you are not considered a criminal if you have enough just for personal use.

Where does one draw the line, though? What about people who abuse it and smoke it each and every day? That is what I can't get over........ and its hard for me to say yes to something like this, even though I smoke it maybe twice a year, and still love it.

Basically, I'm on the fence again.

    OH - one more thing!

The U.S. is insisting that this will hinder trade relations with Canada - cramming their policy down our throat, in other words. They are none-too-happy with this policy, but we have the right to decide for ourselves. (PLEASE, DON'T START A TOTAL ANTI-AMERICAN THREAD HERE - THANK YOU - FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS ACCIDENTALLY STARTED TWO WARS HERE.)

Actually a few people in the state of washington don't realize that you can have upto 42 grams of MJ on you, and you can only be busted for a mis-demeanor, as long as it's not seperate baggies. They usually write you a show up in court ticket, if they decide to bust you for it.

You are right shamus, your are another country, and you have the right to decide for yourselves. The bush administration can cram it. The drugs bush did, are far worse than a little MJ.
