week after next’s watchtower study is about why saving for retirement is following the Bible’s advise.

I’m sure that will piss off more than one boomer.

"How has that been working for JWs over the years?"

Jesus did say: By their fruits you shall know them".

Marky Mark and the governing body bunch gotta get you a woman.

    Marky, boy, is that you?
I thought your post-hangin' days were through
Sunk-in eyes and full of sighs
Tell no lies, you get wise
I tell you now, we're gonna pull you through
There's only one thing left that we can do

    [Chorus]
We gotta get you a woman
It's like nothin' else to make you feel sure you're alive
We gotta get you a woman
We better get walkin', we're wastin' time talkin' now

When it comes to the shocking practice of dumping long-term servants at Bethel, or in fulltime service on the circuit, when they reach 70 or 80, the GB would do well to heed the warning in 1 Timothy 5:8:

"Certainly if anyone does not provide for those who are his own, and especially for those who are members of his household, he has disowned the faith and is worse than a person without faith."

Given that they even talk of brothers and sisters there as the Bethel FAMILY, they can't get away with excusing it with: "they're not REALLY our 'household' - their blood relations or local congregations back home should take care of them now"!

At the least they should give these ones a decent payoff, based on their years of service, to help them settle back in a local congregation. I'm sure they could afford that from the flipping of just a couple of their major facilities or assembly halls.

I am sure it did piss off more than a few Boomers….The problem is that this advice is too late for millions of older Witnesses there. The religion is probably doing an about face to seem ‘normal’ to outsiders. Was I ‘ahead of my time’ to prepare for my retirement years ago - or was it my Catholic upbringing and wisdom instilled in me when I was younger?🤷🏻‍♀️

    JOURNEYMAN:

You repeated the idea that never dies:: kicked out Bethelites (aged 70 or 80) who served for 40 years (in a cloistered environment) ..and the idea that their ‘families’ and ‘local congregations’ should ‘take care of them NOW’… First of all, anybody that age probably has no family left!! Everybody has passed away. Maybe there’s a niece or nephew(?) and when was the last time they saw them. So, the elderly bethelite is supposed to land on their doorstep? Right?? 😮

And as far as thinking the local congregations are going to take care of them, the religion must be joking. The congregations are already saddled with broke pioneers and so many others who never took secular work or careers seriously. Many are quietly ‘Fading’ or leaving.. NOW, broke and bewildered seniors are joining what’s left there.

SO, How’s this supposed to work? Besides the private shakedowns for money, is a bully elder going to pull some family aside and tell them they have to host this senior citizen at their dinner table? I can’t even laugh at these scenarios as it is so pathetic and I am sorry for anybody still left in the JW religion.

I know a couple in their 70’s that have been serving overseas for decades and the gig is up for them very soon.

From the evidence I have pieced together, they have been lying about their residency so that when the borg asks them to leave they get more old age pension.

This is nothing new. I have heard need greaters give advice to others about how they can get relatives to maintain an address in Canada so they can claim benefits when they get older and even get money now.

Other than the fact it is fraud, This couple has the nerve to tell me I work too much. I have to. I’m overtaxed supporting deadbeats like them.

There ain’t no free lunch. Somebody is paying.

That's pretty well the plot of Futurama. Farnsworth takes in his great-uncle (by thirty generations) Fry. That such a solution should be forced on them by a pragmatic and uncaring government makes an interesting allegorical point, in the case which we're discussing. Or at least, I can see 🙈 an allegorical point 👉 ☝️.

I can give a very good example of this in my local area. This guy was the longest serving CO, ever, in my country. He must of been in the job 40 years plus??? He was also a total arse, who I didn't like, and was known for his disparaging remarks about women. Anyway he managed to survive and stay in the job.

Mean while the Bethel here gets sold, money moves off shore, and because of his age he is no longer fit for purpose and is let go. I did hear that Wt was paying him money as a special pioneer, due to his long service. I'm just wondering if anybody else has heard of this and could confirm it. His first rented house he moves into isn't up to standard due to insulation, dampness, and rats. Luckily some kind soul rents him a place well below market rent. Fit for purpose but not by much.

I believe he is now in a nursing home suffering from dementia and despite the special pioneer allowance he recieves from Wt, and his personal savings. It would be no where near the amount required to keep him in a nursing home. What really pisses me off with this guy, is that it's now the tax payer that's fitting the bill. He can count his, bloody, lucky stars that he lives in a country that has a pretty good welfare system. If he didn't he could quite possibly be dead. This guy was a total arse for buying into it, and Wt just wiped their hands of any responsibility.

I’ve heard similar stories. The special pioneer thing is just a stipend much like CO but less. A local congregation is supposed to pay for your housing and most other costs, the stipend was about $100/month back in the day for special pioneer, $300 for retired COs and maybe $500-1000 for COs depending on the area and whether they had a sponsoring congregation, if there was a sponsor that would be reduced.

Note you had to pay gas, clothes, food, rent etc from that, so really special pioneer despite considered full time had to get at least a part time job. COs could submit travel from congregation to home as an expense, but no more.
