having been a witness, I will always in some way be influenced by their teachings and their most basic morals. all choices that I have made up until this moment have been somewhat influenced by watchtower teachings. Its a part of my life, like it or not. I just have to cope. I have to remind myself almost everyday that the "end" is not almost here, and that I must plan for the future because I dont know exactly how long I will be around for. So, I just deal with it day by day.
Are You Still Influenced By The Watchtower Society?

Ways to tell if you are still being influenced by the Watchtower Society-------You feel 2 door cars are "wrong"--------You seem to always feel more comfortable in a suit and tie or (for the ladies) a knee length dress-------You don't know what to do with yourself on Tuesday and Thursday nights between 7 and 9-------You won't say "bless you" when someone sneezes-------You know that if all else fails, you can still clean for a living

Here's a few other ways to see if you are still under the influence of the Society. You feel "uncomfortable" celebrating birthdays or holidays, you feel gambling is greediness, you feel that you're still not good enough, you still would make sure nobody sees you talking to a disfellowshipped person........Any more???

oh my god, it's so sad but that is so me!!! I dont know about everyone else, but having grown up in the truth i find that those witness phrases still come flying out of my mouth unbidden...such as "growing up in the truth" :X

Of course I'm still influenced by the Watchtower. I guess only a DF'd person isn't influenced anymore. Being inactive, I don't go to meetings since years, but I still have that inner feeling saying I'm doing something wrong If I buy lottery tickets.

One thing that helped me to see the "truth" about the "troof" has been these tapes, real eye opener for me. I will never view God/Jesus, religion or the Bible as anything but a story passed down through the ages again!
It has totally freed me from all my past beliefs, very freeing! Now celebrating and all the "worldly" celebrations are all good!

Of course, I am. It's like asking a man or woman who just got divorced if they are still affected by their ex.
It takes time.
It took time to deal with my abuse and my parent's alcoholism...20 years.
Gambling--a waste of time unless you are a counter and play blackjack. Everything else is pure mindless entertainment.
Holidays/birthdays--Celebrated them to a degree growing up with a non-JW father. Love is love, if it is there, these events will enhance it, if not, it can't create it.
Talking to the DF'd--been doing it for years. I don't know why someone didn't stop me. Maybe it was because I had proof the elders were talking to their DF'd family members/friends, having dinner with them, with lame excuses.
No problem with meetings. I never missed them. The self-important teaching things they haven't read to an audience who seem to be learning to read.
I have to admit that I still miss the danishes, both kinds apple and cheese. If they bring food back to the conventions, I won't be back though.

Nope !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I first left, maybe a little, but that disappeared quickly, and saw it for what it was.
I remember a friend telling me years ago, when I was still in, he said to me :
He was right !!!!"Get away from it for a year, no contact, no publications, and I'll bet you never go back, you will see it for what it is."
