My Ex CO in Texas was 25 years old.

  Jonathan Smith was in South Dakota, though that was not his home state. Actually not to bad a young fellow. Not afraid of the old-timers who liked to "lord it over the flock" as I remember. I knew him in the early nineties. He was single at the time. Some years later I spoke with him briefly on the phone. He was in Tennessee at that time. Had also married by then. No idea where he is now.

  It seems the better C.O.'s usually drop from sight. Definitely in the case of circuit overseers the cream does not raise to the top.

  Sail Away

  In 2011 my last was C.O. was under 30 years old (my son's age at the time). What a joke! He was DF'd as a teen, graduated from M.I.T., had a return to God moment, got reinstated and quickly climbed the ranks.

  I served lunch to him, his wife and a bunch of pioneers, but didn't go to any of the meetings during his visit. That was fun! First time I ever got a thank you note directly from a C.O. instead of his wife-- strong encouragement to attend the meetings next time so we could get to know each other. Haha!

  Funny thing happened. Mr. Sail Away had invited a couple out for dinner after sailing the night before this lunch. I explained I couldn't go, because I had to make lunch for a travelling minister the next day. Turns out she was an ex-JW! The husband volunteered to grill the chicken for me, and then we all went out to dinner. So not only did I not attend the meetings, I didn't make the lunch either. True story.

  Did he later become a DO? Was he kind of short in stature? Did he have a brother named 'Dan Smith'? we had a CO, with a brother also a CO, both 'born in', Dan went to 'where the need is greater', also went to bethel.

  No idea if he is now DO. No, he is not short. He is about 6 ft tall, maybe very few inches shorter than 6 ft. Nornal weight.

  It seems to me that the trend was younger, then older, then back to younger.

  In the old days, they could be very young and inexperienced - like almost still dripping from baptism. But then it seems that the org started wanting them to be older. It seems that in, for example, the 80's there was an unwritten rule where I was that men needed to be 30ish to even be recommended as elders.

  Then, I think, when the org realized the end wasn't coming (or at least not soon), it started wanting to get rid of older folks were or who soon might be a health liability, and it started wanting younger ones for CO and other "paid" positions.

  here in the UK---Bevan Vigo was our CO when i was first married--i was 20--he wasnt much older than me then.

  he is one of the london bethel head guys now.

  my old PO was a CO at a very young age, early 20's I think, became a special pioneer at 18 , left school at a ridiculously young age as well, didn't make him a very decent person though, he was a power mad idiot in all the years I knew him, a dangerous slimy snake.
