Yerusalyim thinks the inner service rivalry is a bit over done. Army can't fight without support from the Air and no Air Wing has ever occupied enemy territory. The Navy moves us around, provides air support and a power projection platform for the marines who are by far the fastest deployable strike force going. WE NEED EACH OTHER. Lets take care of the common enemy the

i have a serious question....do you think it is necessary for the US to spend so much money on its military? the US has 50% (!) of all world wide military spendings. what would you think about cutting down the firepower by a factor of two and raising the income of the staff by lets say 30% ? (+ give the rest of the money to the 3rd world or the homeless )

We need to spend MORE on the military, both in terms of hardware and software, and salaries. IT SAVES LIVES. I don't believe in a fair fight. If you can give me the technological edge over my enemy then do it. Also, you saw what our guys were doing over there. They aren't getting paid NEAR enough. As a percentage of the GNP the US doesn't spend much at all on the military. As a percentage of the budget, it's really not much either. Especially considering the "common defense" is one of our most important government functions. Make us strong enough that no one wants to dick with us, then I'll be happy. Technology is evolving. Our enemies are getting technology too, so we have to continue to build. The way we fight wars is changing making it necessary to have different equipment. I've seen some of what is in store for us in 10 20 and 30 years from now. Exciting stuff that will saves lives, but it will cost money.

quality is good...but what about the quantity? is it necessary to buy 3000 (!) F22?
by the way...the US is currently spending 3.6% of its GNP which is palnned to increased to something like 4%. this more than twice as much as most other western countries.

Its all in good fun Yeru. I know and realize what the other branches of the military do for us and I know that we cannot do our job without the others. I'm sure everyone knew it was all in jest.
