Amac-
I have to agree with you - in my exp and what i know being a former Bethelite as well--one of the most interesting thing about wt is how no one personally benifits from the money-
yes they are sitting on a ton of CASH in fact the break up of the 5 new corps were the direct result of the cash pile they made in the 90's the Accountants and Lawyers are literally running the show at this point
the Writing and Service dept based on my information is a second thought- WHEN i was in bethel they were the be all and end all, esp as long as Freddy was alive-
based on the corp bylaws a person can't touch the cash- everything is done by committe and any suggestion from Leroy to Bubba about taking the cash would result in that person being turned in, and why well there are 1000's of men in line to take his place- let George Counch F%ck up
he will be in the cleaning dept before 5PM and someone else will be overlooking the East river from his OLD OFFICE- SMILE
i used to l live 2 doors from from Fred Franz, i recall coming home early one day for Night Watchman duty and the housekeeper had the door open, up on the 9th floor of 124- so i asked if i could see freddy room
DAMN --IT LOOKED WORST THAN MY ROOMMATE's AND mine---smile
nothing fancy at all, then we moved to Towers and where Sydlick and GRANT SUITER LIVED being married men THEIR ROOMS LOOKED like little palaces- you could always tell a single man room from a married man room
George Gangas, John Booth, rooms looked just like single men - no pictures, no pretty colors, decor . plants, etc
but the married GB's rooms looked nice MUCH LIKE most married couples,
my mom dogged me and my roomate, all we had on the wall was a Calendar with a thumb tack holding it up- SO SHE bought us some curtains and plants and some pictures to hang- smile
some of the most Powerful men at bethel - the ADAM BOYS , David Sinclair, etc they really didn't have anything fancy
o sure they got the normal GREEN HANDSHAKE, but access TO WT $$$$BILLIONS _NO WAY
my old rooomate is still in the Service dept and he told me that when JR Brown got his new Q45 ( from larry graham wink wink)almost every bethel heavy almost Sh!t Bricks-
while some do have cash from getting a HOOKUP from the friends- I have not seen ANYTHING that leads to someone touching the cash
in fact i recall guys who were in charge of money and they would act like to buy an extra Saw Blade IT WAS COMING OUT OF THIER POCKET
and being that you were at bethel you know that-
in my view if i had to chose do the men at the top do it for the Money or Glory
i would have to go with the Glory/Power/prestige,ego tripping ,etc
i mean come on-- to be called a Brother of Jesus Christ like the GB what more could one ask for-
to tell the bethel heavies that they are doing good to Christ's Baby Brothers- what more could one ask for
so for those who think that it is the money I have to disagree, unless you have some type of proof-
and this in my view is what makes the wt even more Scary---- to think that in so many religions those on top just Pimp the members for their cash so they can buy $5,000 suit, rolex watches and tool around in Rolls Royces- yet the men in wt perfer to be on the District convention-
telling your A$$ and my A$$ to quit our job-
I would feel much better knowing that they were just Pimping us for our cash and time - faking being Ministers
and yet to find out that many of them believe THEY ARE ACTUALLY DOING THE WILL OF GOD and Speaking for god --now that is scary
in my area we have Prospertity Churches that teach MAKE MORE money and you can give the "LARD" not the Lord but the "LARD" more of your 10%
as i tell my wife all the time, if the WT really wanted JUST CASH they would quickly come up with some NEW LIGHT AND jw would be giving 15% of thier income

First off, let me wave hello to every body!
Now, here's a thing: when I started reading this thread Rob Zombie's song, "House of 1000 Corpses" started playing, with the lyrics "This is the house, come on in, this is the house, built on sin..." airing just as I scrolled past the pictures of the Watchtower's buildings. Coincidence? Or divine intervention? Does Jesus like Rob Zombie? Hmmm... maybe He's cooler than I thought...
Now that I'm done with that little chilling circumstance, how about a theory? We all know that
1. religion is a powerful control mechanism, often utilized by governments to subjugate and steer their populations.
2. The Watchtower is at least an ally of the U.N., if no longer an actual NGO...
3. The Watchtower emphasizes the need to not get involved in nationalism or in elections, thereby eroding the patriotic sentiment of 12 million people around the globe...
4. The Watchtower subtly (at least in recent times) highlights the U.N.'s achievments in its magazines.
5. The Watchtower insists that the imminent approach of God's Kingdom makes efforts to improve or change circumstances in local government uneccessary and even blasphemous.
6. The Watchtower, from its inception, has borrowed many aspects of the Masonic cults, which feature a "two-tiered" system of supervision and control, with some people at the very heights of visible rank still on the outside when it comes to actual decision making.
So, in light of this, is it possible that the Watchtower has a "two-tiered" system, with the visible agenda of Kingdom Advertising(TM) being secondary to a real agenda - perhaps helping the U.N. become a world government?
That would at least explain why the corporation as a whole keeps taking these strange trips into doctrine, commerce, and dogma, perhaps even serving as a source of revenue for the U.N.
There is no proof of any of this, just a thought I had. I could be tripping, but stranger things have happened.

That's really out there Czar. I don't think so. Gerard, you are very good at digging up information, and seeing how much money the Society has is very interesting. But you are harping on the wrong things. In anywhere near Brooklyn, Patterson, Wallkill, a $226,000 house is not a luxury, it's called a bargain. The average price of a home in those areas is well above $300,000. You claim that the WT folks have an open checkbook for travel and expenses, and chauffeured limousines. Can you prove any of those allegations? I doubt it. One thing that was not mentioned here is that Bethelites take a vow of poverty, so it would not be possible for them to siphon off money for their own use, at least by the book. Power and respect sound good, but they are not enough to explain away the drive for money, at least in my eyes. I remember when the WT publications CD came out, and how we were reminded that a comparable encyclopedia from secular sources would cost $70 or $80, so we should keep that in mind when making a contribution for the CD. What they didn't tell you was that the development of the CD was done in-house (zero cost), the publications are owned by the Society so there are no royalties (zero cost), and the marginal cost of producing a CD is well under a buck, probably closer to $.25, again since they are using volunteer labor. I'm sure many people paid through the nose for those CDs and continue to do so each time there is an update. Clearly there is something fishy going on. I'd prefer to be told that "although costs are low, the money goes to the ongoing preaching work" or something, but then we know that many people wouldn't contribute.

LOL! Gerald, I think you've gone off the deep end.
You bought a remarkably similar story from the WT...all the way to Bethel. It was worth the shot.

Gerard - At the rate you're going, you will waste just as much time on this religion on digging up useless information and posting to this site. If you were never a JW, why are you here?

Good point. I never really thought about that aspect.

Randy Watters thinks otherwise, as well as many others in this forum.
If you were never a JW, why are you here? >>>amac
I said it before: to learn and help.
…can you understand why others are a JW, and not scoff at their stupidity and blindness the way almost every other ex-JW does? >>>amac
I am still in the process. But devotion becomes "stupidity and blindness" only after seeing and denying the evidence of abuse and deception by this cult. -

Well if validation is all you needed to keep going, it looks like you got it. Rock on!

Ummm, I think you're getting your threads mixed up...that's from a different thread.
