Congratulations, Aztec!
Now, don't fuck up.

Argh, I've been off and on the damn things ever since about a year before my departure from the borg.
I made it about 4 months but then the Florida Freedom Fest got me back on the durn things again. Something about drinking beer - I just can't resist a ciggy when I'm drinking beer!
The best advice given to me when I quit on this forum a few months ago was to condition my mind by telling myself - I am not a smoker. I do not enjoy cigarettes. It works!
Aztec... yo .... congrats ..... you are one tough cookie.. (hmmm, did I say cookie, good substitute...NOT). Keep up the good work... I agree with Dan - keep up the positive mental reinforcements.
Thank you Shutterbug, Rhonda, Bradley, Dan and Double Edge! My mouth tastes slightly less like cigarettes and I'm beginning to hate the smell. I could smell it in my car immediatly this afternoon..Blech! I have to say today was harder than yesterday for some reason. Maybe the adrenaline rush is gone and now I'm just dealing with the withdrawl. Good substitute: 8 glasses of water. I've been going to the bathroom like there's no tomorrow...LOL!
IronGland, shut up!

Hey Aztec!!!!!
Hang in there Girlfriend!
It took me three HARD tries to quit from March to July (1972) when I got baptized. It was horrible, especially having a smoking hubby! I was a heavy smoker and never figured I could quit! I'd never TRIED, and never had REASON to until I was planning to be "dunked for Jah"!
I ate tons of those small lollipops (for the sucking reflex I missed) and my mouth was raw from walking around with those things stuck in my face every waking moment, but I did manage to quit (I was gonna say "lick it, but decided not to :o), and I haven't stuck a cigarette in my face since then!
It CAN be done!
Hugs to your success, Kiddo

Aztec!
Good for you!!!!! I quit smoking (cold turkey also) about 14 years ago after smoking for 20 years. It was really hard. I prayed a lot. I was quitting so I could get baptized--LOL Also, I had a friend I could phone day or night if I got a craving to smoke. It really helped to know she would be there to talk me out of picking up another cigarette. (If you want my #, PM me ;) )
I like the straw and the rubber bands idea. Also, crunching ice chips...
You can do it, Aztec! You're a smart, strong-minded woman. Now that you've decided to quit, I know you will succeed.
Love,
out
Oh My Gawd! What Have You Done?!
*Is in total shock for losing a smoking buddy*
Good luck Azzy, you can make it. But I of all people won't hold it against you if you won't.
