Do demons flee from the name of God?

I personally do not believe in demonic attack. I think that The Master imprisoned Satan and all the fallen angels when he was on earth. Frankly, since one of the roles that the WTBTS plays in the lives of its followers is in loco parentis, I strongly feel that all the JW demon hocus pocus serves no other purpose than as the "boogey man" they used to scare their boneheaded "children." JWs are, after all, only a religious cult based on control and fear.

Even if there were demons lurking about, what meaning would the synthetic name "Jehovah" have to them? Zip.

Finally, Jehovah, being nothing more than the concept of God held by an illiterate, savage Bronze Age Levantine semitic tribe, I don't think that demons regarded the Jehovah concept as being anything to fear even when they were free to roam about and cause people to do strange things.

The whole issue is one big nyuck, nyuck, nyuck to me.

Demons flee when you turn the light on.

LOL, that was funny. Confession: Sometimes I sleep with my light on to ward off demons and other scary monsters that like to hide in my closet and under my bed.

The way I look at it is,if a person were to have Gods Spirit, why would they need to say his name?

If, indeed, demons exist (the way the WT or other Christian groups portray them), and if they indeed to go away when someone says "Jehovah" (as if he's not noticing what's going on and you have to yell to get his attention - maybe he's on the privy??)...it's probably only because they think "Oh, ugh, a JW, let's get the hell out of here!"

But do the Jehovah Witnesses teach this as one of their doctrines, or is it just an unwritten belief they have. I mean, has it ever been on one of the Watchtower magazines? Not that I am interested in reading one, but just wanted to know if it is something actually taught to that degree.

    CA,

Yes, they teach that by calling on the name of Jehovah demons will flee. I don't think that a true believer in Christ can be overtaken by demons. If the holy spirit resides in you...demons can't penetrate. The problem that witnesses have with demons is evidence of the lack of the spirit of God. love, dj

demons don't flee from the name of God any more than they flee from the presence of God. Being cast out from the presence of God is a punishment not a relief.

Satan tried to enter the temple in heaven to present himself before God as late as Job 1:6.

Demons flee when I drop my trousers...

    ... unfortunately, so do women...

Brilliant responses with the imaginary friends and the loights ahn (sorry, lights on @ funky)

Actually, I think you only need to get demons to flee if you believe in them. If you don't believe in them, there aren't any demons to flee. If you do believe in them, unless you really have some deep belief you are bad, they will probably flee when you do what you think will make them flee.

Thus people of all beliefs have an amasing ability to make imaginary being flee when they apply the correct solution from the belief structure.

I think it is an urben legend that has spread aroung the congregations. I'm sure that the WT has cited experiences that has perpetuated these legends. I've lost my WT CDrom, so perhaps others can search 'demons' in the search and find experiences. I even remember a woman who was kidnapped prayed to 'Jehovah' and it made the kidnappers be nice to her. Even wards off rape!!
