Well, it's like talking to a wall, but who knows what impressions it made. I agree with Dan, their shunning policy is on shaky ground scripturally.
And as far as going back, the prodigal son went back and was readily reinstated, no questions asked. While I realize that certain cases may make an exact modern-day parallel of that impractical, it seems to me that they put people through much unnecessary hardship and waiting until they can get reinstated.
