Saw your name and thought I'd just poke my head into this thread to say that Aztec is one of my favorite books as well. I bought Aztec Autum but I don't remember getting very far into it. Most of it was written after Gary Jennings death.
If you haven't read his The Journeyer you're missing a book at least as good as Aztec - also by Jennings. It's about Marco Polo.

Matty, you've got the idea! Petty would be a great referee! She's so balanced. She see's all sides of the story and isn't afraid to play devil's advocate! Plus she show's up at meetup's with quarter's...LOL...my son loves her even more than I do..hehehehe!
