Yeah, recently DNA samples showed that we are not directly decended from Neanderthals. Add in the very old Homo sapiens fossils in Kenya, and H. sap. has been round far longer than we thought, and lived at the same time as H. nea. If there was interbreeding, there is no genetic trace of it in modern man.

New evidence, and the theories change to remain true to the evidence. Best guesses, yes, sometimes so pretty damn sure there's no point in doubting it, but sometimes best guesses.

A different paradigm to one where new evidence requires interpretation to remain in line with an unalterable theory.

One pradigm is the evidence changes, the 'facts' change.

The other is the evdience changes, but the 'facts' remain the same.

    Each to their own.

My wife and I watched it last night, fantastic show. She's no longer a dub but she believes in the bible account of the creation. She liked the show and she's going to do more research on it now.....hopefully she can become one of the more enlightened among us and admit that man wasn't around for only 6,000 years, whether 'God' started the process or not.

    ashitaka,

When I was still a dub and struggling with the evolution/God thing, I read a book called "The Source." (I do not remember the author right now.) It was interesting to read this as a JW. The author believes in God, but shows how you cannot dismiss radiometric dating, the age of mankind, and even evolution. It does get a bit weird near the end when he discusses how me meshed the belief in God with the belief of evolution, but it was thought provoking nonetheless.

My wife bought this for me in hopes that it would strengthen my faith in God, but it didn't work.

When they show programmes from our advert/sponsorship free channels such as BBC, do they cut them up and put adverts in? I hope not!!!

I liked the show. Seeing examples of hominids as they may have appeared back then had the effect of expanding my mind to the possibilities. Made the realization that Adam, Even and the Garden were all fables even more real. It also showed how close we came to not even develop to the point we have as a species. I wonder what I would have thought of the show if I were still a witness. I usually watched shows like that anyway when I was a Dub, but I always had an explanation that made the possibility of cave people go away. But in the program there was a skull that was... what? A million years old? How would I have explained *that*?

You're right of course... I don't know what I was thinking. I will go sit in a corner.

All right, now, don't make me feel like a bigger b*tch than I usually do I always speak up because

    a) I'm a nitpicker by nature

    b) I would rather people correct me than I go blithely about my business using the wrong word

(And I really do have to look up the terminology myself, to make sure I have it right - it's not the easiest thing to remember)

The author of "The Source" is John Clayton. The book is subtitled "Creation--Eternal Design or Infinite Accident?"

I liked some of the things he talked about in the book, like radiometric dating. But he does play games with probability like the WTS does with their "scientific" books. You may still find it interesting.

I also started reading "The Blind Watchmaker" but have not yet finished it. The author of that book is supposed to show how apparent "design" supports evolution and not creation.

Must find more time to read....

Not only did they cut em up for commercials, they edited it for content. The BBC version had more hominid nudity than the Discovery version.

Damn! How do I get the "Hominids Gone Wild: Doggy Style" version of this show?
