The dubs can tell you about 1 Thess. 5:3 all day long. But ask them what the preceding verses say, and they go blank.
They haven’t a clue.
Ask a dub how they will know the “peace and security “ statement that fulfills the verse, as there have been many.
They will tell you “it will come out in the Watchtower”.
Yes, dubs expect “something to be written to (them)” about it.
But they still can’t tell you what the preceding verses say.
1 Thess. 5
1 Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers and sisters,[a] you do not need to have anything written to you. 2 For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
So, the dubs don’t believe it will be a “thief in the night”, for the dubs will get written notice. No surprises for them...
Alas, the dubs have never read the preceding verses, as they stay in breathless expectation of “something to be written to (them)” concerning the their in the night.
3 When they say, ‘There is peace and security’, then sudden destruction will come upon them, as labour pains come upon a pregnant woman, and there will be no escape!
The point the dubs miss is as plain ad the day. The nations have always said “peace and security” and sudden destruction has always followed.
But the dubs say “we are different... we are not in darkness, we will not be surprised!”
4 But you, beloved,[b] are not in darkness, for that day to surprise you like a thief;
Again the dubs lose. The verses has a qualifier, “surprise you like a thief”.
A thief is doing wrong, and so when he is caught, it is a surprise to him.
Christians will certainly be surprised, just not “like a thief “...
