I used to work for the Public Affairs Desk on a regional level. Not in a leading position, just a helper. About 1 year after I ceased attending meetings I got a message to help doing PR for the forthcoming DC.

    I have never replied.

I've got no real mechanical skills so I've never been asked even when I was active.....but this thread is interesting. It seems that they either a) lose track of who's active and who's not or b) are so desperate for help that they even ask inactives.

My dad went to hall builds over a hundred miles away, out of our circuit and maybe even out of our district. If somebody is DA or DF, it usually doesn't get announced outside your own hall (at least in our area). If you drift away, there's no real announcements either. There's probably still some JWs I've run into that don't know I've left and it's been over a dozen years. I think it's extremely possible that all this guy had was a list of numbers of people who helped in the past and no clue as to their status. And I don't think that would be out of the ordinary. Kinda like my list of business cards. I'm expecting most of my older cards are for people who left for other jobs.

What I found kinda interesting is the "OK, NEXT..." attitude. No encouragement or invitation to come anyway. I would think most other religious people (with true love) wouldn't just drop it. They might say they'd like to see you again anyway. Maybe even ask for your help with the construction project anyway. Maybe they feel that if you come and participate in a group activity, you might find it fun and have a desire to go back to church. Or at least that it would be helpful to you to show love and show they care.

And historical investments would be??? (Thinking they might give Enron et al some needed lessons?)

Hee Hee! I missed this thread, and love it!

I was never asked... too many eager beavers to do the jobs for them...

I did participate in one KH build... found it quite silly, really! Media was there... and nobody else. I had to lay sod. By then end I was bored of it!

I remember for almost a year after I was DA'd I was called by various PO's to give a public talk in their hall and/or to exchange speakers (I had taken of this job for a couple of years as an elder). The first few times it happened I simply told them I was no longer handling this job and told them who to call. When it kept on happening I started to get a little ticked and resolved that the next time they call for a sub I'm going. But, as luck would have it, the calls ended. I suppose it took a little while for the word to get around that I was Da'd. Thinking back, I'm not sure what I would have done had I given a substitute public talk. But one thing is for sure, it would have been something those people would never have forgotton. Lol!
