I just can't get over it!
It is illegal in Canada to do this... cover up sexual abuse of any type! If someone comes to even a counsellor, and tells them of sexual abuse, it is their job to get the person to report it to police, or tell the police, isn't it?
The elders just told her to shut up.
could this ruling be used in other cases? Did they prove that the elders did indeed tell them to shut up about the abuse? That's ILLEGAL, in my view!
Too many questions...

They also recomend elders give caution about seeking professional help, especially 'Group Therapy' or 'Talk Therapys'. They say 'Talking indiscriminately to others about child abuse may result in circulating damaging and harmful talk' Refering to PROVERBS 17:9.
How they truely love the victims of child abuse in there organisation.

Maybe it will be better if it is handled in the Supreme Court. More publicity that way. This judge obviously lacks analytical skills. He should see the difference between a mother asking elders for help and a person confessing to sins. Two very distinct situations which do not parallel each other whatsoever. I believe Nathan may have hit the nail on the head about the competence of the Berry's attorneys. Why did they fail to drive that point home? I hope they do better in the higher court.

I emailed this out to: (Sean) [email protected] and included O' Reilly @foxnews.com too of my disgust inn this judge and if they indeed cared about all kids an America, as Hannity 'acts asif' he does, then it is their duty to report and let US decide.
I also emailed it to National Govenors Association as well as American Council of Life Insurers President, Frank Keating. I also plan on putting Nancy, his assistant, on my 'call list' for Monday; to stress the outrage over this judges 'ruling'.
Also, it was sent out to local media.
I basically called the media hypocrites for not reporting this organization's churches crimes and lethal policies and deadly interpretation of scripture. And I indeed put a degree of shame on them.
For this 'judge' to Rule this Way, is incomprehensible and an outrage.
What will YOU do to get this ruling overturned and /or is it possible? And how?

This ruling sucks, however, there is no reason the victom in the case cannot go to the police.

I think part of the problem is a lot of people still see JWS in a good light. Not everyone believes the media, and even if they do, how bad has it hurt the catholic church? People still revere the Pope. My doc thinks they are some of the nicest people he has known. They are for the most part clean living and honest. At least that is the input i get from coworkers. To show them up, it will be hard- Ripping the lid off this house of white washed graves. There will have to be a lot more media coverage to get people interested in this. Things seem ot go in cycle with the media. They focused on cults in the 60-80, and there was a lot of interest. Now it is child porno and abuse.Who knows what will happen to blow their cover. Perhaps a child of an well known person? Also, remember the Ta,mmy faye baker scandals? We all thought it was the end of organized religion. it was not. people still whatch those revolting shows and give them money. people will just refuse to believe naything bad about their religion. The followers of Baker and such all claim it was evil persucution (sp) form the devil. go figure. and then there was the big deal about repressed memories and how therapits induce them. There for a while therapits were being sued. I know a doc who got sued sucessfully for dx a MPD and telling her family. But u don't see it in the news anymore .It is still a problem.
News has become a show all its own. The more scandal the better. So people are not tenidng to take stuff seriously-no more than i take the national enquirer seriusly.

What If I go to an elder (minister) and report that my father has been kidnapping children from my neighborhood, bringing them back to our house and raping them. Would the judge say it is ok to keep that quiet.
No, I don't think so. I think the biggest problem here is that the society we live in is somehow minimizing these atrocites when they occur within a family in their own house. This is an outrage!
You are SO right. I guess it's okay to molest one's own children.

I guess this judge is putting the 'ecclesiatical privilage' thing first. Funny how the jws claim their elders are "untrained" when it suits them.
