So, the organization says the “disgusting thing that causes desolation” in Daniel 11:31 is the United Nations being set up in 1945, but in Daniel 12:11 when they interpret the 1,290 days they say it’s the League of Nations in 1919. Please could someone play devils advocate and tell why this could be anything but inconsistent?
League of Nations as the disgusting thing that causes desolation

It is not 'inconsistent', it is very 'consistent' in that both of those teachings are false. False teachings/lies are what the WTS/GB are good at being 'consistent' about.
It may prove to be true that the UN is the 'disgusting thing' (KOTN/8th king), but it was not so upon being set up in 1945. The 8th king comes about at some point during WW3.

If you think those interpretations are nuts (and they are), have a look at their interpretation of the ‘2300 days’ in Daniel chapter 8. 🤦♂️

No. Apart from the superstitious hyperbole about ‘God’s kingdom’, everything in Daniel was done and dusted in the 2nd century BCE.

Okay, if you say so.

Okay, if you say so.
Yeah, because I’m the one with the outlandish view here. 🤦♂️

Yeah LOL!!! It's supposed to be fulfilled by amending organizations charter (which is bizarre) at the beginning of October 1944, weeks before when the end date is meant to be (22nd October or 1st November). The bible verses in question are supposed to be about being persecuted for 2,300 days. But the interpretation has nothing at all to do with being persecuted for 2,300 days.

Not to state the obvious, but the League of Nations was the precursor of the United Nations. So 'naturally' they amount to the same thing in Bible prophecy.
Interesting to imagine a resurrected Daniel in the new system looking at this stuff in amazement.

Some might find this really old thread interesting.
The UN, was the WTS given special knowledge?
