League of Nations as the disgusting thing that causes desolation

Not to state the obvious, but the League of Nations was the precursor of the United Nations. So 'naturally' they amount to the same thing in Bible prophecy.

Yes but in Daniel 11:31 the "disgusting thing that causes desolation" supposedly refers to the "setting up" of the United Nations in 1945 (not the setting up of the League of Nations in 1919). Daniel 12:11 is clearly referring back to that event in Daniel 11:31. Therefore when Daniel 12:11 says to count 1,290 days from the "setting up" of the "disgusting thing that causes desolation" it must be referring setting up of the United Nations in 1945, not the League of Nations in 1919. And that would still be true even if we say the League of Nations was also the "disgusting thing that causes desolation", in which case the "disgusting thing that causes desolation" was set up twice, in 1919 and 1945, but the most natural interpretation would be that Daniel 11:31 and 12:11 must both refer to the same event.

The counting does not start from 'setting up' as in creating/forming the UN, it starts from the 'putting in place' the UN.

The UN/KOTN is 'put in place' sometime during WW3 when it is given authority. At that point it becomes the 8th king. The UN could not be the 8th king upon it being started. It was a newborn in 1945.

[ 31 And arms will stand up, proceeding from him; and they will profane the sanctuary, the fortress, and remove the constant feature.“ And they will put in place (5414.) the disgusting thing (KOTN) that causes desolation.32 “And those who act wickedly against the covenant, he will lead into apostasy by means of smooth words. But the people who know their God will prevail and act effectively. 33 And those having insight among the people will impart understanding to the many. And they will be made to stumble by sword and by flame, by captivity and by plundering, for some days.]

    What about League of Legends?

Or A League of Their Own?

Or The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen?

    Aren’t they disgusting, too?

Yes, I agree, but that’s not my point. My point is about internal consistency (or lack of in WT case). I don’t want to get into a debate about the interpretation of the “disgusting thing” (I don’t even believe it’s the UN at all). But my point is that whatever interpretation someone has of what the “disgusting thing” is, Dan. 12:11 is obviously referring back to the events mentioned in Dan. 11:31. On the WT interpretation Dan. 11:31 is about the creation of the UN in 1945, but in 12:11 it’s the the League of Nations. Therefore their interpretation is internally inconsistent. If they want to be consistent they should start the 1,290 days from the setting up of the United Nations. I’m not saying this would be right, but it would at least make their interpretation consistent. Unless they think God cannot communicate in a consistent manner.

Just to clarify. When I said I agree with your comment I meant that if we assume WT interpretation then the counting would have to begin with the putting in place of the UN not the L.O.N. Personally I believe all of Daniel 7-12 occurred in the 2nd century and all other interpretations that seek to push the fulfillment to the modern day are very contrived.
