AS IF
Hi Maggie,
I am relatively new here too. I have been "out" for about a year and a half now, and I must admit to you I am a little bitter about things that happened to me. I think the best thing that has come from it all is that I found my true self. By that I mean I discovered what I like and dislike, how I feel, who I trust, who my friends are, (and I choose them) and how I spend my time.
If I may, I also learned to do something else. I had to take "GOD" out of the organization. What I mean by that is that I still believe there is a god, but there is no association to God and what the "organization" teaches about god in my mind. This has helped me alot. I hope you get comfort here. I have found this site tremendously helpful. I don't post much, but I read everyday, and there are a lot of new ones out there that are coming here and telling there story. When you hear it straight from the "wrongdoer" in their words its amazing what message prevails. Keep reading and keep an open mind. There are good people here. Many are still licking there wounds and the wound is very deep. Keep smiling.

Welcome, Maggie! I hope you find comfort here. I left a year ago, after a lot of events over the past 15 or so years finally convinced me that the love spoken of by Jesus and Jehovah was not in a Kingdom Hall and not being practiced by Jehovah's Witnesses as a whole. "Lack of love" is probably the most polite way to put how people are treated within the organization.
Happy reading!

Maggie I just wish there was someplace that I could enjoy the truth of christian freedom to worship my God without all the other stuff that goes on.
Pleasuredome: there is a place maggie, it's called your heart.
I dont think there could be a better answer than that.

Well, Simon and friends have made this a wonderful place to express opinions and ask questions. I myself don't get to frequent the site as much as I would like, but I certainly enjoy it when I do. A word of advice though- Anytime you see a thread where Prisca and Farkel are engaging in one of there spirited debates, run and hide. you'll be glad you did.

Wow ...I can't believe all the responses..it takes time to settle into the idea that there are others out there that know the heart of one who has gone through the test of leaving first in your heart and the out in the open. I clicked on chat and there were some really tender people there ...such as Joy and OCW...and blue...thank you all for listening to me ...maybe I can be there for someone else when I make it through the "grieving" as they told me...thank you again

WELCOME Maggie.
It does take a while for the shock to go away. It is a real shock to the system to find out your life was dedicated to a lie.
The only real thing I came away with was a deep love for the Almighty Creator and his dear Son. I have chosen to look inside for peace. Jesus is really there. I do not plan to even look for a religion to cling to. There is too much chance for corruption and manipulation.
I left about a year ago. My beliefs are in a state of flux. I continue to search and research the different ideas out there. This is a great place to do that. I have learned to take what fits and leave the rest alone. Freedom of speech and freedom of religious belief is a wonderful thing.

REASONING WITH THOSE "SURE" ARMAGEDDON IS ALMOST HERE: Diehards among the Watchtower
Society over Jehovah's Witnesses hint Matthew 24 is about today’s earth which entered a Last Days period of
unusual war, disease etc in 1914. China's Taiping Rebellion of 1850-1864 actually killed 40 million people,
far more than the 10-12 million who died in World War I, and World War II eclipsed WWI by killing 54 million.
Not even a million died in the Iraq War of 2003. During 1925-1976 China's Communist doings, mostly under
Mao Zedong , led to up to 100 million deaths, coming from Civil War, the murder of landlords, religious groups
and others suspected of opposing Comminism, Mao's "Great Leap Forward" flop that also brought deadly famine,
and Mao's bloody Cultural Revolution.
The worst disease was a series from syphillis and smallpox killing 95 million Amerindians 1500-1800. In 542-65
A.D. some 100 million Mediterraneans died of a bubonic plague series. AIDS has slain just 20 million. The
world's harshest famine slew 4 million Chinese 1333-37 A.D. and likely led to Europe's Black Death, and in
1876-79 drought in China slew 9-13 million. The number and intensity of earthquakes worldwide 1900-2003 did
not increase in intensity and frequency. The worst killer quake slew 1.1 million in 1201 in the eastern
Mediterranean.
At Matthew 24:21 Christ said along with his return or presence would be the greatest tribulation ever. At
Matthew 23:34-36 he says those in his own time period or generation would see the start of great tribulation.
There has been a continuous tribulation or persecution of Christians since Christ, first in one land then another,
the Sudan being an example for 2003. So the "Great Tribulation" is great because of having lasted 2,000 years,
and its severity and intensity are also great. But it is not something only beginning 1914 or just for now when
involving modern terrorists, or even just for up in the future. Christ said a wicked generation looking for a sign
gets nothing but Jonah’s sign, meaning that like Jonah he himself also spent 3 days in the bowels of death before
resurrection.
So Christ’s resurrection is the only real sign needed. He said “nobody” knows the hour or day of
the end of the "aion" which means eon, age or time period rather than "world" as some have mistranslated it.
(Mt 24:36) He himself is the spiritual Leader wherever two or more Christians gather. We are to stay alert for
his return bit he did not ever say to interpret what he had said to mean be so much on the edge and or so
unbalanced as to be deprive our families of normal enjoyable times together such as picnics and vacations. God is
the happy God of love who made our universe, and love and joy are fruitages of His Spirit. (Ga 5:22) He wishes
that all humans might live and enjoy life, (Jn 3:16, Ec 1:4) not be put on edge with paranoid mispredictions.

Maggie,
First off, welcome. You'll find many friends and helpers here.
Second, I have to agree with those who say look to your heart and the Bible. He will make His message clear to you. He doesn't need a middleman.
Next, as to your questions:
for example if I want to reply to something someone said or ask them a question..how do I do that...
To quote someone else's words like I did yours: when you click on "reply" you can scroll down the page underneath the box you're typing your answer in, see posts made before yours, highlight the parts you wish to respond to, click "Edit" and then "Copy" on your web browser's menu bar. Then click within your message at the spot you want their text to appear, click "Edit" and "Paste," and the highlighted text should be there in your message. To quote it like I did you, highlight the other person's words within the body of your reply (in other words, what you just copied and pasted) and then click on the white balloon with the quote marks in it (beside the smiley face on this page) and the other person's words will be boxed.
If you know the post you want to copy from is going to be too far away from yours to use that method I just mentioned (you'll know after a few posts), highlight text in the original post, click "Edit" and "Copy" before you click on the "Reply" button. Then when the reply box appears (wait a few seconds for all of it to appear) click within it and then do the same "Edit/Paste" thingie and there they are!
To ask someone a question privately (sending a "PM") , click on their username. That'll take you to their "profile" page. On it's a link titled "Send a message." Click on it, pick a title to your message, and after you've typed the msg. there's a "Send" link that'll do just that. I'm describing this from memory for now.
or if someone says email me how do I do that...
There used to be a link in each post that would give an e-mail address (if it wasn't restricted) but it must've been abused in the past because it's gone. Have to ask someone for their addy or "PM" them as described above.
this is not a very computor literate person at this end
No need to feel bad about that! None of us were born that way.
And for adding emoticons like the smiley face to your message (you know you're gonna ask! ) click the smiley face beside the "quote" balloon and choose one.
