Memories of Excessive Laughter

But today the org. is a dull miserable place, where laughter is minimal, and an event as above described would be frowned upon, so not happen.

I have a vague memory when I was maybe 6 or 7 years old (1969 ?) of a young speaker who named his talk on the TMS on Thursday night, "Tarzan and the mean gorilla". I remember the laughter. He probably got in trouble for it. But, I never forgot the title.

Watchtower promotes the robotic, automoton types to positions of leadership. And those guys have about as much humor as a tree. They use guilt and shame as effective weapons against all things "inappropriate".

i remember in the final congregation i was in--during the early 70, there was one brother--married with 2 young kids. He refrained from working, having a selection of illnesses peculiar to jehovahs witnesses.

He sat in the audience--with an idiot grin in his face--and would burst in to laughter at anything the speaker said. He was a fine JW.

    👍🤣

Had a guy like that in one of my previous congs - learnt recently he's the presiding overseer/elder co-ordinator or whatever they call them there now!

First thing my husband said when he attended his first ever JW meeting years ago, was how sour everyone looked with deeply lined down turned lips!

He said as much to my pimi parents who were taken aback, 'But people usually comment how happy we look!'

No, people don't say that about JWs, the WT just tells them that.

My experience with laughter at the Kingdom Hall is a negative one.

Ive noticed many a watchtower study conductor or book study conductor use “humour” to shame those who make mistakes in commenting.

I hate being laughed at. That’s why I don’t comment anymore

I used to say to myself, when I went to meetings and witnessed the craziness, “uh oh. More trouble in spiritual paradise.” That was in my second congregation. It was insane. There was definitely a Hatfield/McCoy thing going on there.
