We missed you at the meetings

No one really cares. No one really MISSES someone. It's more like, "we had a truly meaty spiritual feast.. too bad you weren't there!"

If my experience is similar to some of you here, some "concerned" sister or brother will ask you out for coffee or dinner, talk about what the issue is.. some are fine, some are too preachy but in the end, they will count their hours on you. That hurts. I am sad but I lost almost all my trust in most of them, even the pioneer sisters.

Look 'em in the eye and ask if they want to meet up for a coffee - freddo

Exactly, they don't really want your company do they! I asked my sister to meet me for a coffee after my father's funeral because we had done the 'necessary family business' stuff for several weeks arranging it and I thought we were ok after that. Did she agree to meet me?

You've never seen such a fuss. She got her husband to phone me. He said they had done loads of studying, prayed about it and decided they couldn't afford to stumble anyone. It's just coffee, I said. More like they don't want to be seen with me because if someone tells the elders they may be dragged before a JC.

No one should have that much power over people's lives.

NJY - Nice reply. Must remember that one.

OND - It's all conditional, few are genuine. If they were genuine they wouldn't agree with shunning.

Xan - they had done loads of studying, prayed about it and decided they couldn't afford to stumble anyone

I agree. They were afraid of what would be gossipped about them behind thier backs.....and a visit to the back room with 3 bully boys.

    Too right!

Thanks for the lovely image of a sister awaiting the meetings.

I really always looked hard for a sister in my district but I could not find one who fell in love with me and with whom I could go to the meetings and praying and together holding hands and singing to Jiova. This was one reason why I faded. And my dream did not fulfill.

TWoY - The pool of 'mates' is narrowed down in the cult. I am sad to say that the unwitting approach to finding a 'mate' is : 'You'll do!'

They are just empty words. I think the JW's have a book of canned things to say. I think you are spot on...." we're at the meeting because we're spiritually strong and you're not as good as we are!" Like my spouse said the other day, where else can you be a window washer/janitor by day and the pope at night?

Toes - Pope by night, yes. And the joy of being immortal hiding behind a trolley in the market square.
