I was in Atlanta in 1968. I remember my knees got sunburned (guess I was wearing my skirts a little too short, huh?). Didn't it rain during a drama and they had to put it off for a day?

I remember the 1976 Convention at Texas Stadium. I don't remember being hot (maybe too young to remember...)

I got sunburnt too. We had to skip a couple of sessions because the whole family 'bout had heat stroke. I do remember it raining one day. Thunderstorm came up and it poured. It was a relief to me. From 90+ to 70 degrees and cool rain. I loved it. I ran around in it(I was only a kid at the time). Can't remember if they postponed anything or not. I didn't pay much attention to any of it.

Abaddon, I never heard of a "triffid" before, is that an orchid? (I did a search on yahoo! and there were some web sites but nothing definitive.)

In Wisconsin, we went to County Stadium in Milwaukee, probably until about the mid 70's. After that, they started having outdoor ones. I remember getting sunburns from sitting outside. Most people brought shade umbrellas though. I don't remember a lot of heat or at least not uncomfortable. But I was a kid. I didn't worry about things like sweating in my clothes back then. Or, maybe it wasn't that hot. It was Milwaukee. I remember 70's being about average and 80's being a heat wave.

Hey Joel! Yeah all mine were at the Macon Coliseum too (now called the Macon Centreplex) and that's the one thing I'll give 'em credit for, at least we had air conditioning. After the Ag Center was built in Perry, they had a few conventions there, and you should have seen the tears shed in Macon at the thought of losing one of their big convention customers!

I'll tell y'all something. Reading all these posts about conventions held in the heat of summertime, made worse by thousands and thousands having to sit close to each other and sit still for hours on end wearing hot hot suits and dresses......just who's the damn fool in charge and why didn't he have the one brain they all share the day he planned convention dates?

Does the Governing Body even think at all? Don't they brag about compassion and mercy? When you've got old folks passing out and kids getting heat stroke because they just have to have the damn convention in JULY you've got to wonder if they're not either a little sadistic or more out of touch with reality than we currently believe.

I think a little of both.

    Mike.
