Blondie, what did Russell mean by "grips" in the above quote attributed to him? It's an odd turn of phrase. Is it some sort of local colloquialism?

Grips are special handshakes, something like gangster hand movements, meant to identify a person as member of a group. In Russell's day there were perhaps 20 active societies similar to masons.

Thanks, vienne! Now it makes sense.

Is Russell alluding to some sort of common handshake within his group, or just that he coincidentally sometimes shakes hands in a similar fashion to those he knows as masons?

My impression has always been that Russell was kind of like a ‘wannabe’ mason, just too nutty and immoral to be accepted by any actual masons. Perhaps he was part of some long forgotten local chapter, but if so, it was never recorded.

So when he says he knows the handshakes, I mean, I know a Masonic handshake, but I’m not a Mason. It sounds more like Paul when he says to the Jew I became a Jew and to the Roman a Roman and to the Greek a Greek. Not that Paul was actually any of those, he just integrated well to try to convince others.

    "Now it makes sense."

Being nutty and immoral is a requirement to be accepted by the masonic lodge. Russell was a perfect fit.

Masons rewrite history. It's also a requirement of being associated with the Craft of any variety.

Isn't that right, Vienne? You know all about rewriting history. And the other requirements.

That verse is from 1 Corinthians 9:20.

Incidentally, Paul didn't write any of those crappy epistles. Some hypocritical religious apostate did back in the day. All those "Jude/James/1Peter/2Peter/1John/2John/3John" books are also forgeries too.

Rewriting history is a common practice with all those naughty religious leaders. It's a tradition they have.

    Isn't that right, Vienne?

Again, I'm not the author of Separate Identity or any other book related to Jehovah's Witnesses. You're guesses are uniformly wrong. Not unexpected.

You're consistently off the mark. Obviously, based on your nonsense comments and grammar, you are a stranger to basic logic. So which mental institution were you in last?

I was in the American educational institution.

I was also in the Watchtower religious institution.

At one point, I was part of the "Greek" style pagan-influenced hierarchical institution as well.

Thankfully, I have broken free of all the human-degree-type hierarchies. Now I can see without braces on my brains.

Which institution are you currently affiliated with, @Vienne? It's obvious your mental capacity is stunted because you refuse to step outside the club you belong to. I do feel bad for you and I look forward to the time we can enjoy sweet friendship without your affiliation poisoning your heart. You seem like you could be pretty cool if you weren't such a bitch.😜
