I believe Generation X brought on the downfall of the Borg.

    ..

Its something they cant recover from.

This creates a dilemma. They double down on their old school ,archaic practices & alienate future converts,, new blood and place their charity status at risk or.....

We see more and more loosening of restrictions. ie beards,, toasting,,, maybe holidays,, relaxing of dfd ones,,, loosening of blood transfusions & create more cognitive dissonance.., leading,,, to doubt &,more dissentio.

Ive always said,,, the Borg was/is its own worst enemy.

Perhaps if the Borg was a nicer , gentler religion,,,since its inception,,, it wouldn't have this dilemma on it's hands!!

I think we can thank Rutherford for most of the cruel, unkind doctrines, Franz and Knorr helped, Beth.

LHG: In the few conversations I had as a ‘Fader’ with Witness ‘friends’ still in the religion - it was obvious to me that they didn’t really know what they believed!

    So very true! 👍👍👍

In some cases you have to teach them what they believe, then prove to them why that cannot be true - you look at them for reaction, and their eyes have glazed over..🤦‍♂️

My wife zoomed the entire convention and loved it .

I would not take the comments reported by Gorby as typical. I know plenty of dubs who work hard in the Ministry and believe every letter of what they say.

Nb. If someone believes they can get away with higher education, they have not seen that elder training video…

Longy -- they might be dying off pretty darn quick -- I've never heard of so many funerals.

Just noticed Blues post ^^^ and not so sure about changes.

    RON W:

I felt it was stupidly and arrogance..

In talking to these JWs I felt it reached a point where not only didn’t they know what the current beliefs on whatever were, they didn’t think it mattered. It was like they felt they belonged to the ‘right’ group so who cares.

    LV101:

Yes, that’s the sad truth isn’t it.. That’s why I’m glad I left the JW religion a couple of decades ago while I had some youth left. Thankfully, I reconnected with family and regained a normal judgment-free life👍🏻.. Can’t believe I put up with that high-control nonsense but it’s a life lesson learned.🙏🏻

Transitioning to the more profitable "evangelical and gospel influence" business model.

Vidiot: Either way, the incentive to stay can’t help but be further eroded.

Plus, it erodes the power and influence of the GB itself. Which they must know.

I wonder what they are seeing that has them making such drastic changes for the past few years, which seems to be accelerating lately. The organization that Gorb describes in the first post is nothing like the religion I grew up in, or the one I left for good in the late 90s/early 00s. Maybe they feel they have to take the risk of alienating current JWs in the hopes of attracting (and keeping) new converts?

I'm about to be 46, so "Generation X" here.

I agree with someone above that my "Generation" started the exodus. By my estimates, 90% PLUS of the JW's I grew up with and around my age LEFT the cult, never to return. Most did this before age 20, and rest before age 25. We were all fed up with this before we were age 18 and headed for the doors. The ones that stayed? I can honestly say there were isolated via homeschooling (knew nothing else, exposed to nothing else) or were children of Elders and Pioneer wives, so heavily brainwashed, isolated, and kept on the WT hamster wheel.

So think about this....I was 21 in the year 2000. I have a child who's 21, and has NEVER stepped foot into a Kingdum Hell. I have friends who are grandparents, SEVERAL TIMES OVER, who's children and grandchildren have never set foot into a Kingdum Hell, and they never will after hearing how we grew up in this dumbass cult.

So what is left? Our quickly aging parents (if even alive, mine aren't!) and really converts of the 3rd world and impoverished countries, and a those highly indoctrinated "Legacy Families" that all own businesses, are intermarried, and because of that can't really leave because they'd not only loose family, but also income, so they many times just "play along" as PIMO for the long haul.

So that was just my "Generation X." That was before the internet really took off. Today? People (and especially kids) don't do, buy, or consider anything without researching it first. And now, they just ask ChatGP or similar to summarize an item, concept, or question they have. Can you imagine what the AI returns to them? LOL!!!! Their attention spans are also waaaay shorter than ours. They aren't going to sit thru these long-ass conventions, not going to Zoom them either. Hahahahahaha! Not happening. Hell, my generation hated them. Sitting in July at The Vet in Philadelphia, or a long weekend at Grantville. I couldn't wait for it to be over! I perfected day-dreaming, etc. Today? lol!! Like I said, not happening, and no amount of stupid cartoons, sappy weirdo pseudo-Christian music videos, or literature releases at a 1st grade reading level are gonna win them over or stop the hemorrhaging.

The dumbing down of this cult is REAL.

    The mass exodus is REAL.

The loosening of petty "rules" in order to be more appealing is REAL.

The tightening of the grip of the GB in order to retain what little they have left, is REAL.

The money-grab is complete, and it is definitely REAL.

The transformation of this cult is still occurring, and it is REAL.

What remains to be seen, is just how far down this cult is willing to go in order to remain relevant. We are 25 years past the year 2000. 24 years past 9/11. We should all be petting pandas by our lakeside Chalet's right now and catching up with our resurrected relatives. Instead, we're treated to the Gluttonous Bozo's fat faces and Rolex watches, begging for money and demanding OBEDIENCE.

As usual, their motto's remain the same:

"The beatings will continue, until morale improves."

    And,

"Give until it hurts, then give some more!"

LongHairGal - “…A sudden loss of a demographic is another thing entirely.”

Super embarrassing, at the very least.

    If I had to guess…

…I’d say they probably still need to get a few more financial ducks lined up* before shit gets worse.

The current batch of (non)-reforms could be intended to buy some time for that.

*In order to ensure the Org’s long(er)-term survival, and therefore still be able to tell themselves they’re God’s Mouthpiece. 🙄
