I haven't heard of that for years. Only in the Watchtower.

Here is one explanation. Of all the information I have read, this is the clearest... a catholic teaching I believe. I gather it is not clearly understood though.

The Wt says that Gog is a name for Satan, and Magog is the King of the North when he makes his final assault on the dubs at Armageddon.
Perhaps the Internet is the new King of the North? Or is Simon Gog?

Gog and Magog
Names, respectively, of a king and of his supposed kingdom, mentioned several times in chapters 38 and 39 of the Book of Ezechiel, and once in the Apocalypse (20:7). In the first passage of Ezechiel we read the command of Yahweh to the prophet: "Son of man, set thy face against Gog the land of Magog...and prophesy of him...Behold, I come against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Mosoch and Thubal" (38:2-3). A similar command is found also at the beginning of chapter 39. These two chapters contain repeated reference to Gog and Magog, but they furnish only vague and uncertain indications as to the identity of the ruler or the location of the country. In chapter 39 Gog is represented (verses 5 and 6) as being accompanied in his invasion of the land of Israel by the Persians, Ethiopians, and Libyans, Gomer, and...the house of Thogorma; and in verse 15 we read: "And thou shalt come out of thy place from the northern parts." From the number and variety of the peoples mentioned in this connection some writers have inferred that the name Gog may be only a generic appellation, or figure, used in Ezechiel to designate the host of the enemies of Israel, and in the Apocalypse to denote the multitude of the foes of the Church. Others conjecture that it may be a local title expressing the royal dignity, such as the name Pharaoh in Egypt. But it seems more probable that both names are historical; and by some scholars Gog is identified with the Lydian king called by the Greeks Gyges, who appears as Gu-gu on the Assyrian inscriptions. If this be true, Magog should be identified with Lydia. On the other hand, as Mosoch and Thubal were nations belonging to Asia Minor, it would seem from the text of Ezechiel that Magog must be in that part of the world. Finally, Josephus and others identify Magog with Scythia, but in antiquity this name was used to designate vaguely any northern population.

Well I guess the WT being a card carrying UN member for 10 years doesn't disqualify them from being in the gog crowd? I find that to be one of the most interesting passages in the the bible . How the people that survive this battle between the forces of good and evil have to pick up all the bones of the dead and bury them in what is called the valley of gog .

As a child that story use to frighten me. I use to be afraid of anything and everything about Armageddon. Just the thought of standing next to someone and seeing their flesh fall off their bones was enough for plenty of nightmares.
I’ve since change how I read those passages because it just never added up.
I think “bury them in the valley of gog” means to leave them behind and forget. Kind of like the New Years song.

The material posted from New Advent makes more sense to me than what the WTS has conjectured about Gog.

Gog and Magog will be either the Islamic countries gathering together to attack Israel or it will be Russia. One or the other.
What matters about it is that at that particular time, Israel will experience peace for a time and when they at least expect it, they will be attacked. When that occurs, they won't be prepared to defend themselves. The bible then says that God will intervene and protect Israel from their sudden enemy attacking them and He will wipe them out. It will be a miraculous day for Israel.
Picture this, warplanes attacking Israel blowing up in the sky for no apparent reason, men on foot and men in tanks is suddenly on fire, killing every soldier on the ground. One of the possibility that nukes may be used (hence the soldiers on the ground may die from a nuclear fire) and I look at this particular verses to show the possibility that nukes *may* be used.....(All these verses are from Ezek Ch 39)
12 " 'For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to cleanse the land. 13 All the people of the land will bury them, and the day I am glorified will be a memorable day for them, declares the Sovereign LORD
14 " 'Men will be regularly employed to cleanse the land. Some will go throughout the land and, in addition to them, others will bury those that remain on the ground. At the end of the seven months they will begin their search. 15 As they go through the land and one of them sees a human bone, he will set up a marker beside it until the gravediggers have buried it in the Valley of Hamon Gog. 16 (Also a town called Hamonah [5] will be there.) And so they will cleanse the land.'The first seven months, they're be burying ALOT of bodies and after the 7th month, they'll go out to search for more....
The reason, I believe, that they waited 7 months before they begin their search for more bodies is because of nuclear radiation, they were waiting until the radiation levels become low enough to be safe to venture out for bodies, even if they have to wear radiation suits for protection.
Those that died inside near the radiation border will be buried first and then after that 7 month period, the rest will be buried after the radiation level drops to a acceptable level even with the moon suits on.
Anyway, I believe God will causes their nuke missles that will be fired against Israel to turn around and aim directly at the soldiers on the ground that is heading for Israel.
What's interesting about this verse is....
9 " 'Then those who live in the towns of Israel will go out and use the weapons for fuel and burn them up-the small and large shields, the bows and arrows, the war clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them for fuel. 10 They will not need to gather wood from the fields or cut it from the forests, because they will use the weapons for fuel. And they will plunder those who plundered them and loot those who looted them, declares the Sovereign LORD .
I am told that many various weapons have some type of chemical(s) in the metal that will easiely catch fire, making the metal to burn slow...remember those Russian tanks back from the first Gulf War, see how easy those tanks from the newsreels can catch fire and burn for a long time? Those types of metal that is treated with this particular kind of chemical(s) will be used for fuel to warm their homes and for use for energy and such. That's what I am told. Anyone from the military can confirm this?
