Happy birthday this coming Sunday, OCW !!

This birthday thing takes a little getting used to. But after awhile you get used to all the adoration and creature worship heaped upon you, LOL.

I think the best way is to get together with some friends and have an outdoor barbecue. After all, summer is fleeting in the upper midwestern USA !!

Hope you have a great birthday OCW

Our family usually gives presents to the birthday person, plus we use the occasion to go out for supper (at a restaurant where they'll sing the song and give you a free meal or free dessert if it's your birthday)

I figure we have a lot of catching up to do.

Last year, we were on holidays on my b-day. So I got in touch with a few friends from here, and picked up a big old cake at the supermarket, and had some cake and coffee with the gang, then we all retired to the hotel's swimming pool and hot tub. It was great fun! The following day, the fun was still coming my way.... as a bunch of us got together for a mid-afternoon mini-apostofest.

    Love, Scully

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

God, it felt good to say that.

Although I've never celebrated my birthday, my parents did celebrate milestones with me, just never on the exact day of my birthday. My dad took me out to dinner when I turned 13, my mom took me out when I turned 16, they bought me a present and took me out when I turned 18, and my pioneer buddies took me out when I turned 21.

I have on occasion sent birthday cards to my witness friends as a joke, and always made it a point to remember people's birthdays and acknowledge them without actually saying "Happy Birthday" LOL. When my dad turned 50, I bought him a dozen donuts and a card.

I'm really looking forward to genuinely celebrating birthdays though.

I sing lalalalala I'm not listening when my honey goes on his death and destruction rant. Dinner with friends is always my most favorite thing. I want gifts from the heart. A crayoned heart is worth more than all the gold of Sheba.

    Happy Birthday, Old Crow Woman!

    Hi, OCW!

I wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday now, as tomorrow is my son's birthday as well, and I don't know if I'll get a chance to remember you then!

Even when I was a dub, hubby was not, so the kids got presents and dinner at the restaurant of their choice, with cake at home later (I never ate the cake -- until the next day or so -- but went to dinner and was the photographer). The first year out I went overboard with gifts for the kids (pent-up pampering), but now it's back down to a reasonable number. In fact, I have one last gift to pick up for my son today, and then wrapping to do. Also need to make the restaurant reservations.

My birthday falls on a holiday, so I can't do those treat yourself kind of days, but if I could, and could afford it, I think I'd do a spa day -- pedicure (never had one yet), manicure and aromatherapy massage. And if I couldn't afford it, one out of the three would be good enough to feel pampered. Or a ticket to a broadway show (even if it's a midwest company), because I love theatre and my husband does NOT.

I hope you have a splendid day however you choose to celebrate!

Happy Birthday OCW! You an my older son share the same birthday.

Birthdays were my first foray into normal life after leaving. I always thought that birthdays were a great way to tell someone that you are so glad that they were born and how glad you are that they are a part of your life. It felt strange at first, but finally having that precious time with family and friends soon took over as the focus.

my advice: Go out to dinner at your favorite restaurant with your close friends and any family that will participate, pamper yourself, do something that you love to do but usually don't have time to do or wouldn't normally take the time to do. Forget about the laundry, the cleaning or any of those other mundane tasks. Enjoy your special day!
